Ended up returning the bass to me due to my oversight on a major issue with the neck.
However, this was not before ruling out any possible fix or tweak of hardware, strings, etc.
I appreciate all the effort in investigating the cause and possible solution to the problem with the fingerboard.

I have been looking around for one of these at a reasonable price point and this was the bass.
joebone was a responsive seller, made a reasonable deal, kept me in the loop, packed the bass well and shipped quickly.
The bass is just as the seller described. It looks good (some wear, but it was fairly identified and is not significant). The bass feels great and, most importantly, it SOUNDS great.

I got the cleanest and nicest TRB5P from him.
It is hard to believe the age on the bass, this thing is in excellent condition.
Played it unplugged until I fell asleep, cannot wait to plug it in and discover the tones these monster will produce.
Yamaha is the king of basses in my book, BB2000, SA70 and now TRB5P in the house.
