Based on the photos provided in this ad, I thought I was getting a cleaner bass than what I received. The seller defended himself stating that the bass was over 20 years old, and was only described as in "Excellent" condition. Of course this is very subjective, and I argued that regardless of this that any flaws should be described, in the spirit of full disclosure. He also said that the price that we agreed on should be factored in as well. At $1200, the agreed upon price was certainly in line with the current going prices for this particular model of bass.
So far, the four issues that were not disclosed to me are below. I may discover more after more investigation:
1- On the front of the guitar near the input jack, there is touch up paint covering something up in the finish. This was difficult to see and really not obvious in the ad's photos.
2- One of the pot's shafts is bent, which cannot be shown in a picture and is not apparent without turning the knob.
3- The entire body of the bass buzzes under the pickguard, particularly when open strings are played. I have yet to pull up the pickguard to check it out.
4- The pickguard is not original. According to the Reverend website, this bass originally came with a gold pickguard. Did this model even have a mother of pearl pickguard available? This particular issue was not discussed with the seller, and giving him the benefit of a doubt perhaps he did not know, buying it second-hand himself.
I approached the seller, but he did not offer to address any of these problems, nor did he show any sign of remorse. I was unfortunate enough to be his first customer, unless he has been around before under another user name/IP address. I would welcome working with him regarding these issues, but he has not exactly made any efforts to do so, despite the opportunity.
