I've been looking for a new short scale for a long time, and had resigned myself to buying some kind of Mustang-ish thing. I've previously owned an Acinonyx from Nordstrand, but even though they sound cool, I've always struggled with the back-heavy slab body of the design. I mostly play with a pick, and never really became friends with those basses ergonomically.
Then, out of the blue, I found a Woodcraft Ampmaster here on TalkBass, and it ticked all the right boxes. This is a modern remix of Fender's Musicmaster bass, and I think the body and neck are made in Ukraine, but they're assembled in the USA by Albridge who also makes the hardware + pickup. The pickup is a noiseless single-coil, and sounds very classic Fender. Cool stuff! Now I'm just waiting for some GHS flats, and this will be really sweet!
The bass weighs less than 3 kg, and with contours on the body, it's incredibly comfortable. The quality is on par with the better things from Fender USA, so this is a professional instrument in every way.
Andy, who sold me the bass, has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Posting it was quick, and communication was excellent. I also had a small hiccup with Norwegian customs wanting an invoice, but he solved that straight away for me.
I highly recommend both the bass and this gem of a TalkBass seller!
