So just to clarify ....I can dial in the Vintage 63 sound on my American Professional P bass if I want? And I won't need to hang on to my Pure Vintage '63 pickups?

No this pickup was just made using the foundation of the 63. It's a different pickup due to the different magnet combination so you could say it can still get a vintage sound along with a more modern sound depending on what you are looking for in your sound.
Was the new VMod P -Bass pickup in my new American Professional P Bass designed to be able to reproduce the old Fender (eg Vintage '63) pickup as well as being able to handle the modern, more staccato sounds?
I think I have managed to dial in my amp now to get close to the sound of the Vintage '63 pickup in my old P bass. The gain has to be increased a bit though. Just curious.
    Thanks.

This pickup was built using the foundation of the 63 pickup as the starting point. I wanted to still celebrate the past with an eye towards the future.
It was the bridge pickup on the 4 string American pro. They guy told me I need to replace the pickup cause the wire is broke I figured maybe he was just looking for a money gain. But I would like to keep the original pickups in the bass
