  • KohanMike I’ve got a Hadean solid body UKB23 but it’s really 24” I want to use the Gold Tone MBLS LaBella Flat Wounds and maybe rout for a Pbass pick up and add a real bridge, curious about intonation issues I may face, or any other hurdles. Also can you recommend a suitable bridge or will any bass bridge do. One last idea would be a piezo loaded hip shot bridge….any thoughts? [email protected]
Sir, my Ibanez PNB14E Parlor bass conversion to Road Toad Pahoehoe strings is in swing. Turns out the Ibanez peg holes are just larger than the bushings on the Pahoehoe strings. I need a washer to secure the bushing behind the bridge plate. Question: What material would be best for the washer? The bass has an under-saddle piezo pickup. Does it matter? Rubber? Wood? Plastic? Metal? Many thx Sir.

I don't really know what would be best. My guess is rubber to avoid any kind of rattle, don't you think?

That sounds right. Small rubber 1/2" plumbing washers w .1" holes would work. I was thinking of wood washer or a wood underplate, but re your rattle observation, I think any rattle or transmitted vibration could be picked up as a kind of lag/feedback/distortion by the Piezo pickup. It should just pick up the vibrations transmitted by the saddle. Rubber it is Sir. Thx from this nubie for advice/guidance.
I play on a Hadean 23" scale UKB-23-33 bass with of Pahoehoe Black 22.5" to 24" scale strings, which I love. I just bought a used 24.75" scale Ibanez PNB14E and I want to put Pahoehoe strings on it. I already Uke tuners from Kala. Should I purchase the 22.5" to 24" scale Pahoehoe strings, or the 25-26" scale set? Also, any suggestions saddle mods for the Pahoehoe strings? Thx. David

Thx for getting back Sir. You are the authority on modifying Rondo Basses! The stretchiness why I was considering the 24" scale set. Aquila is good string IMO, but after 1 set of Pahoehoe, I’m hooked by the tone, playability, and intonation. I already have Kala machine tuners and I feel good about installing them.

Any tips re enlarging the Peg holes? The FAIL would be going too far, right? I’m thinking:

    >Don’t use electric drill. Work by hand.
    >Buy a cheap wood reamer?
    >Buy 4 drill bits sized to task? (rotate by hand, not w drill)
    >Make homemade reamer w sandpaper around tiny bit?
    >Catch dust with shop vac pulling from body as I work?
    >Catch dust w fabric or mask taped inside body (a makeshift dust bag)?

I've used an electric drill and proper sized bit, but a proper sized reamer would be fine. I would not use sandpaper on a bit. I do use a small shop vac, good idea.
Interested in getting your Gold Tone. How'd we do this!

I thought I noted that it was sold many weeks ago. Sorry if I missed that.
