Pros
  • price, feel
Cons
  • no 5 string options anymore :(
I am a convert to flat wound strings and my go to has been chromes since they discontinued the 5 string sets. I came back to them to give them another look, but I had no choice but to get another manufactures "B" string, but I'll keep this to 9050's. They feel and sound similar to chromes but not the same. The fenders are warmer and more growl to them while having less high mids than chromes. The feel of the string is nice and stiffer like all flats are, but as it breaks in they become a bit looser feeling. I don't find them hard to play and man can you set them up with low action, a great side effect to the stiffness. Tonally I do not feel that I lost much or anything, I don't slap much but could get by if I needed to. If your on the fence about flats give these a try and give them a month or so before deciding, they age well.
