Pros
  • Smooth feel, good tension, and perfect for any frettless. Good tome, and not to bad high end (but then again I use on my frettless basses and elect. upright.
Cons
  • Not a lot of top end tone if that is necessary
Been using 88Ls on all my frettless basses for decades. After all They have been available since 1962.

Great on fingers and finger board. They last a long time with little maintenance, just a quick wipe down after gigs. And real easy on the fingerboard too.

I have never experienced any drop outs or etc. And the tape wind is superb. After all Roto has been building them for over 50 years. Think they probably have ironed out the bugs.

And they look pretty cool on and bass.

Pros
  • Low end Look really cool sounds great on reggae and dub songs
Cons
  • Easily clang Not for a hard picking style such as metal, unless you want a lot of clang
Really easy on your fingers and dont cause any blistering, also sounds great when fingerpicking close to the neck which is what I use them for.

Problem is becuase they are so thick the E string can really easily clang, espetially when playing near the back pickup.

If you playing a softer style of playing and need something really bassy but dont have a 5 string these are perfect. If you want something with a lot of attack and little clang you should look at something else

Pros
  • They look nice.
Cons
  • Very clacky, Over rated.
Struggled to get a decent sound, gave up on them like another review here, wouldn't try again. You can get a better sound just with Nickels and down toning - I seriously think these are over rated and doubt weather the were used on classics such as 'come together' or anything. Sound very different. (25+exp here).
