I like my action to be medium-high since I like to really dig in.But I’ve been wondering if my action is just to high even for my style of playing.

I have a Fender Jazz Elite with the HMV bridge and can't find a hex wrench to fit the intonation adjustment. Actually forked out the big bucks for the Fender guitar multi-tool and same issue - none of them fit. What the heck strange hex nut are they using on this bridge?
I've tried everything, my strings are literally 5 mm from the fretboard and are still buzzing no matter how much I keep turning the truss rod or messing with the bridge. I've watched like 6 videos so far on how to set it up and at this point I'm convinced that the buzzing isn't because of me but...
Hey guys, some of you may have seen my post talking about a vintage P bass that I just purchased. I have to say it's not exactly what I thought it was going to be. However that's not the point of my post, let's get to that.
There is a small gap between the body and neck in the bottom of the...
I really tried everything within a normal setup can possibly do.
-Tried the next things so if you have another idea please be kind and share.
-Neck Relief
-Checked frets level with a fret rocker
-Higher action
-Lowered the pickups since magnets are supposed to be super strong and cause the...
Hello,
So I have a weird one for you guys today. I'm not a cab/amp expert, but after some advice and help, I've had my TNT 100 connected to an external head.
The head is a Peavey MiniMega RMS 1000 Watt head.
1 Old head wires were disconnected.
2 New wires were connected to a jack sticking out...
Hi guys,
Let me ask for you opinions here.
I was at the guitar service center to get my old warwick adjusted and so on.
What are you thoughts in the following? Is this even legal?))
Or this happens due to the body shape?
Now, there is a lot of conflicting info on how to adjust a truss-rod. Assuming that you observe clearance at the 8th fret while depressing at the first and last fret, I've always gone for 0.7-0.8mm. Others say 0.3mm while pressing at the first and 15th (makes sense, that's where the truss rod...
Is it possible that some Cort basses have the truss rod turning direction the other way around?
I have a cheap 4-string Cort PJ that already had its strings too far from the frets. I turned the truss rod clockwise, which required some force initially but after it started moving, it did not take...
The neck doesn't appear to be twisted. The bass stays in tune. There doesn't seem to be anything alarming as far as bowing. The bass is mostly playable except I get some fret buzz. However, I don't get any fret buzz when I press harder/hold the strings more firmly.
The strings are a little...
Hi there, this is my first post, I'm sorry if there is already a topic about this.
I recently bought this bass and it's a really great bass, I've been playing bass for 14 years and this is my first fender ever, I have an Ibanez sr1600, and a Warwick German Corvette, so I'm not used to this type...
Im having alot of issues with my new Music Man HH stingray bass, because no matter what adjustments i do, i even raised the nut with a piece of credit card, the 4th string always has this annoying buzz on every fret i press! The action is already super high, i cannot raise the saddle anymore or...
I am just starting out with the bass. I checked out the action out of the box and seems to have some fret buzz. I looked at the strings and the first fret has significantly lower action than the stings closer to the body.
I watched a video on how to adjust the truss and bridge but I still get...
Hi!
I recently bought a 2011 MusicMan Stingray 5 Classic, and I´ve been trying to get a low action without massive amounts of fret buzz, and it seems not to be possible, at least with this model.
I have played Stingrays in the past with super low action, so I´m worrying that the neck might be...
Getting straight to it, I have a Fender AM Professional 5 string P bass and I love it BUT there are three frets, yes just 3 that enoy the hell out of me.
The frets are the 2'nd to the 4'th on the G string ( A, Bb, B ) that buzz, not in a nice way with roundwound strings.
I have gotten good...
I have a precision bass and start to make a horrible buzz on the 7th and 8th fret of every string, i have loose like 1/8 of a turn (2 times) the truss rod, but that noise is still there...what do you think it is? I have to raise the nut? The bright? Move more the trussrod?
I installed new strings on my Ibanez SR500 but i went from a 45-65-80-100 set to a 40-60-70-95 set, so my bass needs to be setup, especially since my frets are buzzing, more specifically on the D and G string. I press down the 19th fret and measure the space between the 7th fret and the E string...
Once set, the most of us do not touch the belts length ever more; in this thought i turned out to give it a fix 1-piece size and there you go ... on the Bergers twice as cool for them bags come really tight on gear (all bags imo a strange kinda weak point), so it fits easily into.
Hi everyone,
I changed the strings of a fender jazz bass american standard 2013 but when I put them I notice that they are not alignment with the pickups poles. Do I have to change it on the saddle to correct this?
Also, what is the correct string spacing for this bass?
Hope anyone can...
Hi all! I've looked but found no results on how to raise the pickup height on a epi thunderbird if.
I noticed while setting up my bass that , when I tried to raise the pick ups, there didn't seem like a way to do so without installing something beneath them (such as foam, washers , or...
hello! i have an ibanez SD GR and have had it for about a year. lately the height adjustment screws keep coming loose, the E + A strings keep getting lower and lower, and one of the screws has fallen out to the point that i lost it. now the E string is so low that i'm getting some major buzzing...
Hi guys and gals
Quick question.. I recently acquired a beautiful, fabulous Cort Artisan A5 Custom SP which is a superb bass in every respect.
However, as this is the first neck through bass I have, I’m a little bamboozled about adjusting the truss rod. Do I just do it as a normal bolt on neck...
I'm looking for a (preferably slim taper) jazz bass neck, fretless, ebony fingerboard, no fretlines. Checked Warmoth, Allparts, Wdmusic, but they all have trussrod adjustment at the heel. Fender (and Mighty Mite) don't make fretless necks with ebony. Any ideas?
I just changed the strings on my new Strat for the first time and my tremolo seems to need adjustment. I've looked online but haven't found anything very helpful. I did increase the gauge of the string. Can anyone tell me what I need to do based on the pics?
Hey all,
I have a 4-string luthier-made bass that is basically a J copy with a few aesthetic differences. I currently have Bartolini pickups in it, which are sealed in epoxy and thus I cannot adjust the pole pieces. The A string is much too quiet compared to the other strings, and I'm not sure...
I have a 2014 Gibson Thunderbird that has been in my possession for about a year now. I bought the bass used and have no history prior to my owning it.
When I received it (via mail) it had virtually no tension on the the truss rod. I could easily move the truss rod nut with my fingers and the...
Hello fellow bass players!
Recently, I bought a brand new Harley Benton bass, model B-450 and it was my first experience with a monorail bass bridge.
I found some posts about Ibanez's monorail bridges, but these were kind of different from these which are way cheaper, so these posts weren't...
OK .... I am SURE this topic has come up a billion times on TB but I can't find a resolve for my particular issue here and the interwebs and YouTube suck for finding the resolve for this as well.
I'm looking for where an allen key would go to raise / lower the bridge so I can lower the string...
i got a v strings lakland 55-02 . This Basses in my opinion sound very boomy specifically the E and B string. I have a low action setup as recommended by lakland (.008). My G string height is set to 4/64 increasing up on the rest of the strings up to get to 5/64 on the B string. The pickup...
I have a ampeg svp pro pre amp, and while it’s a good preamp Im looking for a way to eq better... the bass knob really doesn’t add much besides mud, and the graphic eq doesn’t sound neArly as clear the the main eq. I play through a dna 410 cab.
Is there something I can add to the signal path...
I have a '63 AVRI Precision that I LOVE. Split coil pup heights can be adjusted to match each string. No problem.
I have a '75 AVRI Jazz which also has the 7.25" neck radius. Jazz pups are one-piece and cannot be adjusted for each string. With this neck radius, there is a substantial...
hello, is it possible for the micro tilt neck adjustment in a 1981 Peavey T40 to just slip over time? When i got the bass, it was making a weird clanking noise at the neck heel, so i adjusted and tightened the micro tilt neck adjustment, this raised the bottom of the neck slightly and now when i...
I was playing the bass after some time off on I noticed the action was higher and quite a bit of relief. Went to make a truss rod adjustment... none left. It's not broken I'm guessing over tightened over the years.. way to fix?
FYI to anyone concerned: the bridge height adjustment pins on my Fender Squier Jazz Bass, a 1980's made-in-Japan model, are metric-measured, M3, 10-12 mm (width, length), adjustable by Allen wrench.
Our local Ace hardware store matched the sample pin I brought in perfectly, though I had to ask...
I have a squier that I never bothered setting up, so it is factory setup. I knew the strings were high all along, but the other day, I watched the famous video (Elixir guy) on Youtube and made a truss rod adjustment. That was the 1 of 4 videos, and the second one to adjust the bridge for each...
Using a small piece of foam right now. Pickups keep getting stuck on the screws, so as I raise the screws, the pickup does not come along for the ride.
Any tips?
I have recently acquired a new to me 2016 Elite P and have a question regarding the split P pickup adjustment. The (very generic Fender) manual supplied with the bass doesn't have the Elite model listed in it's height adjustment chart. The American Standard P lists 8/64" on the bass side and...
Im having some issues with adjustment with this pick up...Need some help or advice.
There are only 2 screws (one on each end) on the pick up. I felt I was losing some highs and was messing with it. I raised the pick up equally on both ends. The higher strings were finally coming through better...
