    Paint cracks or body damage?

Hi all, I'd like some help in determining if the cracks on my '74 Jazz are just superficial or have they penetrated the wood underneath. The bass itself is a well-loved beater since before I inherited it. If they are something I'll probably worry about in the future, can you suggest anything I...

    Cracked Truss Rod Nut

I was essentially gifted a custom bass a few months ago and have recently discovered that the nut on the truss rod is cracked. There's literally a crack running from top to bottom the length of the nut, making it impossible to adjust. I believe that it's a dual action rod, and, from reading...

    Acoustic bass neck lacquer cracked

So I think my acoustic bass may have been knocked or fallen into something as there is an area on the neck where the lacquer has shattered and cracked. It is not a large area, maybe an inch across but it is noticeable. Is there an easy fix for this, or a way to stop any shards coming off it? Thanks

Buying a cracked American P Bass

Hey guys, I've spotted a great deal on an American P Bass, the reason it's such a great deal though is that it has a 2 inch crack on the bottom edge. It's been repaired by the previous owner with epoxy, but it wasn't clamped together for the repair. I'm not worried about the visibility of the...

Do you think ebony is a brittle wood?

Many consider the black heartwood of ebony to be a brittle wood (comparatively speaking). I owned a bass with an ebony fretboard back in the 90s. Fresh from the factory, the fretboard cracked. This turned me off on ebony I've steered clear of it ever since. I've never seen cracking...
