Hello all,
Right now I am using a global gut plain gut A string. I love the sound of it but it gives out in thumb position, which is a bummer because I want clarity on the whole fingerboard.
Would the pistoy A sound good up in the thumb position? What gauge should I look into...

I decided to try gut strings again and, within a couple of hours, remembered (once again) that I'm not a gut string player. My loss is your gain. Bought these from Mark Gollihur on Sept 28, put them on carefully (properly cut bridge, no kinks, like new condition), and took them off the next...

Gamut Red Diamond Copper-wound E & A and varnished nylon-wound gut D.
Well-used but still in good condition. No separation of windings.
Strings have been trimmed on the pegbox end, but will fit any standard size 3/4 bass.
From the Gamut web site:

Hey everyone! I recently discovered these amazing new double bass gut open strings made in India, I have put them on G & D on both my basses, E & A being Spiro mittels for now but I will change them accordingly soon, and they sound like a dream especially for pizzicato Jazz, with the bow they...
Brand new set of J-ROQUE strings custom made by Gerold Genssler for sale. The strings are in perfect condition. I’m willing to sell them at a discount. They are a long lasting synthetic gut string that’s reminiscent of gut strings used by bassists such as Paul Chambers/Doug Watkins. Please email...

I bought these used 6 months ago.
Tried just the G today, and decided I simply didn't have the bass for these guts.
They are still in good condition.
Would prefer to sell entire set - E, A, D and G.
Price includes shipping within the continental US.

Hi guys,
Anyone has any experience with Aquila Gold Springs (gut or synthetic) on a 39 inch (scale) bass? I have spirocores on which feel great, but I miss the gut sound. Not sure if there is any gut or gut-a-like string that works with a smaller bass. I think gut strings prefer a 40-41 inch...
Hi, I am a beginner to Double bass gut strings for Jazz and some Arco playing, and need your opinion on different sound options available on different sets including mixed sets.
Sam Jones is one of my favorite bassists. I am amazed by his sound. Do you have any theories how he could achieve that bright, crunchy, aggressive gut sound? I think it's very rare to hear bassists today getting that old school sound, even with gut strings. Usually it's much darker and dull. Do...
A rare NOS Oliv equivalent gut D Pirastro Chrom darm. Looks like it’s been taken out of package before as the silk looks a bit worn and slight bend to the plain gut end. Anyway essentially brand new as per photo.
Oliv D costs about $160 USD so $70 seems about right?
Postage I can quote world...

Hello. I use plain gut strings D&G and wrapped A&E. After 6 months they have lost some brightness and volume. I oil the plain ones regularly and I dry them off with a cloth after playing. But how would you remove dirt in a way that's not harmful?
Hey y'all. I've found my favorite string so far (Velvet Animas)...they're loud, present, complex, low tension, and can be dark or bright depending on what I want! It's too bad they're not being made anymore. Does anyone know of any viable alternatives? I'm particularly fond of how well they bow...
Howdy, hive mind. I'm having a difficult time finding metal wrapped gut strings for the D and G strings that aren't Pirastro...are there any other (more budget friendly) options? Special consideration given to strings that excel at arco please! TIA y'all.
Gut G for $24 !!!!!!!!! Jus sayin ...

I LOVED the global gut d and g I got from Etsy a while back. Expecting similar results here ... interestingly I never liked the “polished” more...
Beauuuuuutiful bass I acquired in LA a few years back. Professionally setup by Upton Bass here in CT. Plays like a dream. Begging for LaFaro riffs. Currently have Chorda D&G on it, synthetic gut A, LaBella Ron Carter E (white). I can throw in other strings, I have a ton. Any questions at all...

Two gut high C strings, probably LaBellas. I have had these since the 1970s when I owned a Chubby Jackson Kay:
1 used good condition. 0.7 mm $30
1 new old stock. 0.8 mm $40
Buy them both for $60. Shipping extra.

Hello to everyone! I'm playing a couple of months now, a new set of double bass strings. On G I play gut-a-like deluxe and on D gut-a-like hepcat. On A and E I have some spirocore solo on. The problem is that gut a like hepcat D string, has very low tension for me and I want actually to change...
Just started playing bass again after several years and to my extreme disappointment learned that Velvet has stopped making strings. Any recommendations for synthetic gut strings that have a similar sound and feel as Garbos??
Looking for a used Double Shot in excellent used condition.

This is an unused Eudoxa standard 3/4 bass set plus an additional A string.
I played Eudoxa's for over 25 years until I switched to 5ths tuning in 2017 and found them to be the perfect strings for my mixed playing requirements - jazz, classical, folk, and early music.
