Looking for strings that sound similar to the GHS Boomers… but higher quality.
I like the punch and the balanced top end of the Boomers. I also like what they do with the mids, not too scooped and not too nasally.
…but I would like strings that last a little longer. The E string on the Boomers...
I know this is discussed in many many threads and there is a very funny thread on sticky;
Help! I need to get rid of that new string sound!
There are stories of very famous people running butter, mayones or greasy sauces to strings for that Jamerson tone or 6 month + old broken in strings o_O
I...
Hello, I just restrung my bass for the first time yesterday, and I noticed after I put the strings on that there is a clicking sound that wasn’t there before, immediately after plucking a string. Im guessing they’re hitting the frets, but I can’t see where. I went with a lighter gauge string, so...
[EDIT - CRISIS AVERTED I took the neck off and tightened the trust rod and the buzzing has stopped for now]
I have a loud sympathetic vibration/buzzing on my newish-to-me 80s Fernandes PJ, and I'm worried that it could be a truss rod. I'm wondering how to deal with it.
I bought this bass about...
Ok, I had no intention of ordering tapewounds... but I supposed the universe had other plans. I ordered from regular ol' Fender SS Flatwounds from Amazon. It was a good price and I wanted to try fender flats, no brainer. I received my package yesterday afternoon and opened the envelope to see...

- other than playing for a few weeks or so
You all know it, the crazy treble that brandnew roundwounds produce. Some love it, some hate it...It goes away after a few weeks of playing.
BUT: sometimes I want to change my strings and have the perfect stabile tone of "played in" strings...
Hi there,
I'm a bit of a beginner. I changed my strings the other day for the first time by myself, and I pretty sure I did it correctly, but I've attached pictures just in case. I took them off but it took a week for me to get the new strings to put them on.
Now I suddenly have all this...
So I switched from medium Fender nickel-rounds (45, 65, 85 100) to Fender 9050L flats (45, 60, 80, 100) and now I have a lot of buzzing on the D and A strings in particular. The buzzing starts around the 6th or 7th fret and increases as I go up the neck, peaking around the 12th fret before...
My friend has this Fender Jazz bass from 1975 which he bought months ago, not knowing the kind of strings were/are on it. All there is to go off of is the color code of the strings:
G: Yellow
D: Green
A: Blue
E: Purple
Any and all help is welcome
Holy cow, folks... just strung my Valenti 5-string with a set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass flats... light gauge (.43, .60, .82, .104, .128)... and wowzers, these things are simply incredible!
It's been a while since I've used flats... why the heck did I wait so long?
Superb sound + great...
Just got a Guild Starfire II reissue. Curious what everyone else would use. I typically play rock, but dabble in classic rock and funk (minus slapping).
I already have a P bass and Thunderbird with rounds and a Epi Viola with La Bella flats. Occasionally use effects and play through a B100R...
So as the title says. got new strings for my new bass.
got myself a pack of D'Addario ETB92S (050-105 )
and it really looks like the E string is from a loong scale ?
(Added pictures of my mustang and new bass with the "same" sett.)
will the loong scale string be fine or should i try and get a...
Medium Scale Strings:
GHS Boomers Medium Scale 45-105: Not in commercial packaging (I bought them this way from Bass Strings Online) but never used. These are 34.5 winds, not 35.5 like some GHS medium scale. $12.50 shipped in Continental US.

A couple months ago I decided I wanted to try flats on my extra-long scale Carvin. Mr. Slappindafunk from bassstrings online was extremely helpful in finding me a set that fits perfectly and sounds great. He even sent me a six string set for the same price as the five string set that was out of...
I play with DR 40-100s on my 4 string basses and found myself with a few extra sets so I'm thinking of trying this setup on my 5. It's a standard fender jazz. Can I get away with doing 100-80-60-40-40 or is this a stupid question?
I'm selling my G&L SB-2 tribute, in very good condition. I've had this bass for about a year. There frets are in great condition, the body is spotless, neck is straight and truss-rod works. The sound and build quality are really very good, however the neck is tapered like a jazz-bass neck and I...

I changed strings and now my action is different, But I used the same strings? How is this possible????? I have a japanese lawsuit CAMEO Precision Bass (Made in Japan) from 1971 or so...... My old strings were Fender 7150's Pure Nickel, round wound and the new strings were exactly the same...

G'day,
I'm thinking of making some bass covers and posting them online but don't have new strings for my bass and can't really afford them. I could save up, but only if it's worth it. So, that's the question, is it really worth it?
the GHS sets are still available. New, unused, and sitting in original packaging. On the Boomer set, I added a high 'C' string (identical brand) to a 5 string set to make it a 6. Come and get 'em. Take both sets for $44 shipped

Hey guys just a question. I recently picked up an old '78 MM stingray and have noticed that the E string seems to be giving out only after 2 weeks. This is only the 2nd through body I have owned in my 20 years of playing and have not had this issue with my top loaders. The A, D and G strings...

Hello,
Just had a basic set-up professionally done for my bass. When I play it now, the 'A' string sounds dead like it's been on there for awhile. The rest are fine and sound as they should. I supplied the tech with the strings that I have been using forever. Has anyone ever encountered this...
My band has our first gig tomorrow and I have a set of new DR DDT 45-105 set I'm going to put on my bass for the show. How early before the show should I put the new strings on to maximize sound quality and string freshness, while also giving the strings time to settle in so they don't shift...

Gold Tone Micro Bass. New Pahoehoe strings that eliminate some of the Aquila string problems (thinning and sticking). Stretching in nicely. 23" scale greatly improves playability, IMO, over the Kala ubass. EQ and tuner run on two 2032 batteries. Sounds best through an amp. BIG tone. Includes...

Started off by getting EB Cobalt Flats - I'm sure they are great strings but just not for me. I just do not like flats and these didn't change my mind either.
Next I bought a set of Prosteels. NOT what I remember them sounding like and hated the feel and sound of the string when fretted.
Put...
Just gigged a new-to-me set (40 hrs. playtime at time of purchase) of TI Jazz flats that sound good with only one tonal setting. They have no top end, some mids. Incredible low end, though.
Played two gigs at two venues, both with odd room designs. My bass did not seem to sound how it usually...
