a student of mine is considering a bottesini piece for this year's solo festival. his bass is 35.5" string length, it's a very nice sounding little bass.
currently strung with spirocore mittel (red silks on both ends.)
would you tune those up (seems risky) or switch to spiro weich, or actual...
I recently had an "urge to purge" some of the output that'd been accumulating on my hard drive over the past year. I tend to record myself working on musical ideas with my phone (no external mic, just hit voice recorder), so I started reworking some of these. Arranged, edited, looped...
I've been wanting to do a solo bass album. Just some classical pieces I've written over the years. Problem is when I go to record them I get the biggest fit of imposter syndrome. I don't expect anyone to really like the project because it's just weird bass music, but I still want to put the...
I've been covering one of my favorite Pat Metheny tunes in my solo shows in the last couple of months and finally recorded a version of it today. Thought I'd share it since it turned out pretty well. I can sequence the whole thing pretty easily on my Boomerang Looper with the Sidecar for live...
I have to setup my bass for classical solo playing, for my degree….
I looking for nice low tension solo strings, my bass has 108cm scale, so I like to avoid stiff strings….
I’m a long time Pirastro fan, I tired allmost all of they strings, but didn”t try Perpetuals, how are the bow response of...
Here's a condensed arrangement of Nightwish's While Your Lips Are Still Red for solo bass. It's fiddly, but shouldn't be too hard for an advanced player.
Enjoy!
Hi, I'm wondering if theres anyway to listen to or stream Gary Karr's recordings other than buying them through the ISB store? I'm a moderately broke university student (my current teacher studied with Gary) and I'd love to be able to listen to his interpretation of the Hindemith sonata and all...
I've been working on two solo bass albums that are kind of told like musicals. The goal with all of the songs is to make them sound full and complete without additional instrumentation. I've been feeling like the songs really need to be dramatically performed rather than just played, so I am...
Dear all, if available and interested, I'll be celebrating my brother's Pablo birthday by playing a 40 min gig on-line through facebook's platform - can be watched without being in fb. Lot's of interesting bass-made music using my recently refurbished Yamaha TRB, as explained in this thread...

This one has been a long time in the making and is NOT easy to play.
Notes:
I transposed it to E minor from C minor so that it would fit into the range of a 4 string bass.
When playing the open E on bar 6 (endings 1,2, and 3) flick it with the fingernail of your index finger near the bridge to...
I heard this song in the backround of one of my dreams and it got stuck in my head the next morning so i wrote it out the way I heard it and so here you go... I call it "The Last Airbend3r"
Nothin too flashy
Working on a solo bass album that might turn out to be an EP. I feel like i dont see enough solo bass music on YouTube so i wanna put a project out for people who are into that kind of thing.
Does anyone search for solo bass music besides me ? I like to listen to isolated bass tracks and bass...
Hi there; I was not sure where to post this; I know many don’t use this platform but on July 17th, at 7PM Eastern Time I plan to play some online solo-bass music, live through Facebook..... not to much to see, but if you would like to watch and listen the link is here...
Man, I can't stop listening to this tasty little track. What's more, I'm inspired not just by his loop groove, but his chops are amazing and I'm inspired by his phrase choices.
I'm not sure if anyone has talked about this bass player - he was able to play Jaco lines when he was 8 or 9 and I...
Merry Tasteless Bass Version Christmas!! I hope that Davie504 won’t call The Police or something on me...
Gear: Yamaha Attitude LTD3 + Helix LT and Helix Native (for the “octave up” thingy)
IMO: Yes!
I know I’m not even close to the only one whose thought about this, but I couldn’t find much in my own search so if there’s a pre-existing thread, I apologize. I’d just like to share my thoughts on it.
People who play guitar, piano, or uke get all the glory; always busting their...

After several years of being a bedroom warrior I finally decided to go out there and record something.
Love the growl from the tone and how it fits.
A little solo is thrown in because there was no guitarist
Enjoy

So I've recently gotten a bit interested in Piccolo basses. For those who don't know, they are standard basses strung differently and tuned EADG up an octave. I know guys like Stanley Clarke have used them, and I find the whole idea interesting to try.
What are the TB'ers opinions on this...
Hello there. I'm an older fella, been playing for bout 30 years, started at 19. I go to a lot of events and whatnot and meet/jam with a lot of bassplayers. I just have to ask? What's the deal with the flashyness?
All these younglings, and even people older than ME coming out with 6-stringed...
