Hi Everyone
I've been experimenting lately (last couple of years!) with some Fender Flats on my main Jazz Bass and I'm loving the tone for most things. The problem is, I'm still having trouble with stickiness - normally things are ok, but last night we played an outdoor gig and, when the sun...
So I know a lot of people have problems w/ their flats and uke bass strings feeling sticky. Recently I've been playing a bass uke w/ Aquila Thunderblacks and noticed that the two thinner strings that have the iron in them seem to be much less sticky. Got me thinking.
Has anybody tried...
I replaced the original Aquila Thundergut strings that came with my wife's Harley-Benton CLU-Bass with Thunder Reds. These are a huge improvement in feel and tone. However, although not as bad as the Thunderguts, the E and A Thunder Reds have become a little sticky after a week or two's playing...
Hi. I recently bought a used Ibanez SR706 from Guitar Center. Love the bass, love the tone, but the neck is a tad grody tbh. I cleaned the fretboard with F-ONE from Music Nomad and it did an admirable job. However the *BACK* of the neck is still an issue. You can rub the neck with slight thumb...
I know this was covered 5 or 6 years ago, but not in a positive, serious way that might help some of you so I’d like to share some recent experiences.
I’ve been playing bass exclusively for 20+ years. I started playing guitar in 1957. I play Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Traditional, and Classic...
Lately I’ve noticed that my forearm will stick to the body of my bass. Really impedes my playing, or rather comfort of playing. Anyone have any tips on how to solve this issues? I only experience this issue on my ‘95 Mexican Fender Jazz.
Just finished my very first build and drove myself near-insane trying to figure out why i was dead quiet UNTIL I started playing and then there was suddenly a bad, ungrounded-type hum... almost like distortion unless I grounded the bass by touching the bridge.
Turns out it wasn't the bass OR...
I have a Les Paul bass with a glossy neck and it gets sticky after playing. This is my first Gibson bass and I've never had a neck like this before. A little searching on TB and now I know this is a common complaint. Reading the old threads I see lots of advice, but no feedback on if its any...
Hi
First of all I want to make absolutely clear that this issue hasn't got anything to do with sweat. I do not get sweaty hands or fingers. I've shaken people's sweaty hands before so I know what that feels like and what I experience on gigs is not like that. It is not so much a feeling of...
I play mostly piz, but occasionally need to pull the bow from the quiver for a quick passage. Over the years the inside of the quiver has become sticky with rosin. Often when I try to pull the bow I get a lot of resistance. (It really gets stuck in there good.) This can delay my arco...
Not getting any help here, so I thought I'd throw out a teaser to see if I can get some love .... Anyone have experience replacing the sticky foam which Fender uses on their MIM Fender Jazz bass to hold the pickups in place? What do you buy?
Did a gig tonight and my hands started to sweat and the strings got sticky. I use GHS Brite Flats Med Light. I had this problem before but just blew it off since I dont play outside much. is it the strings? or will this happen no matter what strings I use?
Have some Rotosound jazz flats on my bass that I bought a month ago, not sure how old they are since they came on the bass. They were definitely broken in though. I liked them a lot, but now after a month of heavy playing they have started feeling grabby and almost sticky. Is this something that...
Tax refund time is coming up, and I have my eyes on a couple of basses: one here on TB, and one over at Reverb...
...BUT... I was just reading about this whole CITES thing on the 'Basses' forum, and yeah, now, I dunno. One of the basses I am contemplating definitely has a rosewood...
Hi folks....I've got a Godin Shifter Classic 4 which started out with a really nice satin finished neck that I really liked. After 6 months or so of use my sweaty hands had turned it to a gloss between around the 3rd and 12th frets. I've tried sanding it back a little with 1200 grit paper and...
I think for the benefit of TB members and the forum, it is time to have an official sticky on Modes I think.
For those who do participate at any threads about them must understand the frustration I have on everyone of them because of the tone of the discussions AND the amount of wrong...
Hi,
I'm really enjoying my transiton from roundwounds to groundwounds to flatwounds, currently GHS precission flats, BUT I have an issue with their stickyness...
I'm not talking about the initial stickyness caused by factory goo and dirt, I clean the strings and they are really smooth... until...
Pulled out today Nitro Bass stored in Protec bag standing up in closet
Bottom was gummy and finish could be rubbed off. Seems gassed somehow
Suggestions to adress?
Thanks
How do you like your straps?
Right now I've got a rough cowhide almost suede kind of strap and while it does help prevent neckdive it does also threaten to yank my collar down exposing gratuitous amounts of my unseemly grey chest hair or yank it upwards in a mad attempt to strangle the life out...
I am not sure what is first, the string or the finger, but now in summertime (I can hardly remember how it was during winter), with more sweating involved, the 'gliding through the positions' is not as smooth as wanted.
The less open strings I use the stickier it gets. The the more #s or bs the...
I bought a used G&L bass and it has flats on them. I looked at the certificate that came with it and from the factory it says D'Addario EXL170. I couldnt find them in flats so iam to believe they have been changed to theses sticky things. they were ok in the first part of the night but after a...
Hey I'm wondering if a tuner can just go bad. I've done the ol' 3 in 1 oil on these and 3 of the 4 are much improved but the E is still sticky and hard to turn. Everything looks OK but I have not disassembled it yet. This is on a 35 yr old well played bass with a lot of hours on it. Thoughts...
I've loaded my new Stingray 5 with Rotosound 77 flats and absolutely LOVE the tone.
I have one problem, though. My fingers don't slide off the strings very well, therefore really slowing down my playing. They seem "sticky" for lack of a better term.
I'm new to fingerpicking flats. Will that...
I bought a set of Daddario Chromes light to try out. My fingers feel like they stick on the strings and they make it impossible for me to play. Is it just me or is this the way they normally feel?
Hey TBers,
I have been playing with some de-waxed shellac (1.5 lb cut) on a couple projects of mine (basses and general woodworking). I have been having some issues with the shellac, especially when i'm doing a 3rd coat.
I used a brush for the 1st coat and a brush for the 2nd. I sanded...
