I am going to college for bass, and i want to upgrade my amp from a fender rumble 15. I would like it to be something i can gig and practice with while still being cheapish because i dont have the money to drop more than 1k on it. I would probably want either 10", 12", or 15" speakers, and i...
Hey gang,
Someone cold-called me for a lesson, but I have never taught. The person holds a Bachelors in music and has been classically trained as a tuba player, with 20 years of experience. He needs to become reasonably proficient enough to play in army rock and jazz groups, the latter being my...
Hi, my niece has been playing my Ibanez GSR for a couple years and is ready to buy her own bass. She's getting pretty good, she loves to play, I'm very proud of her.
I am looking for suggestions for a bass that is full scale but fairly light and easy for smaller hands. She plays all genres of...
Punchy 3/4 Kolstein bass for sale. This is bass was made in collaboration with Jiri Polovny, and finished by the Kolstein shop in 2019. This is a D neck bass with a 40.5” string length. The bass is currently set up with Evah Pirazzi (weich) strings. The deep punchy sound would be great in the...
Punchy 3/4 Kolstein bass for sale. This is a 2019 Dollenz model with a 40.5” string length. The bass is currently set up with Bel canto strings as I am an orchestral player, however the bright punchy sound would be great in the hands of anyone looking for a Jazz bass.
The bass just received a...
For your consideration is a beautiful 3/4 ply. I bought this bass about 3 years back from Upton and it has been my workhorse since. While it shows some play wear, all of the vital components are in great condition and work perfectly. This bass is currently strung with Pirastro Perpetuals and...

I'm a student looking to purchase a good double bass for Orchestra performance and something that's compatible with a bow. Does anyone know if the Johannes Kohr k500 bass can be played with a bow? I'm not very educated with compatibility's since I just picked the Double Bass up around January...
I have no idea how to run a club here. am I supposed to register somewhere? I don't intend to assign memberships. Participation is wide open. You don't need to be a bad player or noob to comment here, You just need to be tolerant of those who are. In fact, I hope to have this thread watched by...
Got this for my 9-year-old who wants to try German bow. He really does pull a better sound holding his current bow underhand, so I'll humor him. Made in the USA, carbon graphite, by Glasser. I'm just impressed that it costs under $100 on Amazon and is clearly functional.

Hi guys, I'm nearly finishing my high school and I just found a passion for music, and now I'm trying to make a step on making music my life. I've been playing the uprigth for two years, and I want to study it in college. My family (as all normal families, the ones that have no musicians in...
Recent developments have forced me to start to seriously consider upright. Full band gigs keep drying up here and I'm told more venues keep asking for acoustic groups and that would force my hand. I'm not buying an ABG as I think as a whole it's a thin and weak sounding instrument unplugged, and...
Hi,
Moderators - feel free to move this into the correct category.
I need some advice from fellow bassists on where to take the next steps in music.
I'm 18 live in London and about to finish school in June. I have been playing musical instruments since I was 6 years old (bass since I was 12)...
Back on the Market! (This time with my wife's permission...)
Greetings. This bass was my son's that he played in middle school. We bought it from Woodwind & Brasswind, and it served us well. Plays nice, sounds nice. It is in good shape, just a few surface scratches mostly confined to in one...

So both my two year old son and seven year old daughter are getting obsessed with playing bass, but neither can really physically manage it. I'm trying to think of inexpensive options to get them a small-ish bass that I can let them plug in and thrash away on but not worry if it gets dinged...
My son has been taking Piano lessons for three years. He's not bad. But his teacher has yet to move beyond "Oh, Susanna," etc. He's getting bored. I feel like I could keep him interested if I could get him to play something that he liked.
This poses a couple of issues. First, I'm not a...
Hi,
I am looking for a recommendation for a decent "value for money" pickup & amplifier for my son = he is a 7th grader, playing the double bass for about a year now (very passionate about it) , needs it mainly for his school jazz band activity. he currently has an Estle Louis laminated bass.
I...
I can't believe this has even extended into bass teaching, but I recently fielded an email from someone offering to pay me in advance for their child, coming from overseas, to take lessons with me, at a rate they specified.
This is a variation on the "we'll send you a $1000 bank check if you'll...
This year I decided I can play the bass good enough to start giving private lessons to boost my income (no need to say gigs don't really pay rents... not that the lessons do, but that's not the point). A pianist friend of mine set up this music school and I joined in as the bass teacher. Today I...
So I am trying to help out a friend, but I am not sure I am really the right teacher for him . . .
Just a background, I have been playing 30 years and learned a great deal of that by ear (because lets be honest there were not all that many books back in the day).
The student approaches the bass...
I have a new student, an older lady in her 70's who worked as a secretary when she was younger and banged on manual typewriters all day. Both of her pinkies are therefore deformed inwards...sorta like the pinkie toes of our wives' feet from being crammed into pointy shoes for decades.
She got a...

A buddy of mine is going to start getting with me on Monday to learn to play bass. I've taught plenty of kids and some adults to play guitar and bass in the past, and even ran a small lesson studio in the back of a record shop back in the day for a while. I'm a pretty good teacher for beginners...
Convinced one of my friends to take up bass guitar. Ibanez Geo mikro and a fender rumble to start. And it's awesome. Currently teaching the fundamentals of theory and the major scale.
Here's everything I know and all that I can find in researching:
The label inside gives Serial #955510, and Model #892L, neither of which I can find anywhere in my web searches. I've read from others that this was a European-made student model from a company called International Strings. I've...

Hey all, as the title states I am a current student at the Roberto-Venn school of luthiery in Phoenix, AZ. I am an school now and was wondering what all of you guys think about the job market and need for luthiers and/or repair techs right now. Ideally, I like the idea of working for a custom...
