Hi all,

I need some hive-mind help please.
Because of incredibly limited space on my pedalboard (there really is no room for something bigger), i’m after a 1590a overdrive. Additionally, the placement of the pedal makes a clunky 3PDT switch too awkward for quick on/off uses of the pedal, it’s certainly not something that gets left on very long.
As such, and i’m Probably asking too much, but are we aware of a 1590a overdrive with a soft/clickless switch?
A clean blend would be ideal, but as long as the pedal handles low end well, it’s definitely not a deal breaker.

I currently have a COG 66 in place which sounds awesome, but suffers from the ‘having a 3PDT’ issue haha.

All the other pedals are specific choices and won’t be changed.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Already talked to Tom, the Mini 66 is totally packed out, no space for relay bypass at all unfortunately, and yes it’s mounted to the board.

I’m surprised that TC haven’t looked at a mini MojoMojo, that would be perfect.

I know you said you won't change any other pedals but I'd consider changing out the tuner for a mini tuner and then getting a slightly larger OD. Much easier to find than a micro OD with a relay bypass (which may not even exist).

I was going to say the same thing. No reason not to upgrade to a TC Polytune Mini. That would allow any of the smaller Darkglass pedals to fit just fine, which tick all of the boxes and then some.

Heck if you switch to smaller cables like EBS, a Darkglass might fit in there without changing the tuner..but I'd personally do that anyway.

Is the One Control Green Hookers Bassmachine a soft touch switch? I can't remember....

But I would follow @BartmanPDX suggestion to swap out the tuner for a mini strobe or something like that. Otherwise your options are going to be SUPER limited. Even in this day and age. I think soft touch relay in a mini pedal is a tough one for my builders. Seems as that's the case anyway. Not saying they're not out there, but it's going to be tough.

I always wondered, how would that be an upgrade in tuner? IMO that's a downgrade going to the mini TC

It's personal preference of course, but the TC Mini has a better display (bigger, brighter, easier to read), works faster, and is half the size. Plus the new TC Mini 3 that comes out next week or so has the option to be always on, so you can still see the tuning whether you have it muted or not. The full size Polytune 3 already has that function. It would also free up enough board space to fit any number of overdrive pedals in the space above it.

Of course none of that matters if the Boss is there for another specific reason.

It is not soft switch.

I thought he meant he just wanted the OD he was looking for to be soft touch. Not the tuner too. Maybe I misunderstood.

I just have a hard time seeing the polytune as a good and reliable tuner. Every musician that I have personally known that used a TC mini or otherwise eventually had to replace it. Including me. They end up either not tuning well or introducing more noise into your signal over time. I used mine for over 2 years before it started giving me issues. I've seen this happen to 6 people myself. I'm really surprised we don't hear more about this in forums actually. It also leads me to believe this is one of the very reasons why TC keeps putting further versions of the pedal out. It sucks too because I def like the display. It's the main reason I got one initially. Plus I had mini so having that was a plus too.

That sonic research one is my small board solution for guitar.

I have the regular sized TC Chromatic. It still does the bass and has a spot my big guitar board (which I rarely use), but I really like the mini turbo tuner, regardless of space constraints.
