18v Pre-Amp Wired Parallel

Does anyone know whether Ibanez would wire an 18v BTB455 parallel for 9v?
Checked it for low output today and found it wired parallel to produce 9v to the module.
No one has modified the electronics, that is the way it left the factory. My only thought was maybe they did it to extend battery life.
Any thoughts?
