1964 Fender Jazz Bass Fretboard Wood

Can anyone identify the wood on my 1964 Fender Jazz Bass? Zoom in to see circular pattern of grain. I would think rosewood, but the grain is unique.

I don't think they used anything but rosewood in those days, but that's unusually reddish, almost like bubinga. Nice old bird.

I'm sure Fender called it rosewood. Who knows what got thrown in the rosewood pile though. Interesting looking wood.
