1982 G&L SB-1 Vs 1982 SB-2 Tone

Howdy,

Just picked up a 1982 SB-2 and may have a chance at a 1982 SB-1. Just curious if anyone out there has had both the SB-1 and the SB-2 (JJ) and can comment on tonal similarities? It seems to me that the SB-2 should sound exactly like an SB-1 with just the neck pick up selected right? Outside of buying the SB-1 simply because it's cool as hell, from a practicality standpoint, I should be able to get the exact sound of an SB-1 with my SB-2 right? Thanks a bunch!

I have an '83 SB-2 and have assumed/wondered the same as you. My SB-2 is a fantastic playing and sounding instrument, in the top 2 with my old Lakland.

Cool. I'm so psyched to get this bass.. Should be here tomorrow. I pretty much bought it on the very few clips on Youtube. They are all really punchy and present sounding. That combined with so much love for this bass online. It's amazing that G&L haven't done a CLF re-issue if it's as good as everybody says.

I bet you're gonna love it.

If they did a proper Lynx re-issue with pickups spec'd exactly the same as the originals, I might have to break my oath to never buy another brand new G&L. I think it's the best sounding bass Leo ever concocted. Those pickups were really something special.

Here's my 10+ pound Lynx albatross. Way too heavy to be of use to me, but I just can't give it up. Sounds too outrageous and the neck carve is to die for.
