I’ve had this 1980s Ibanez 5 string Roadstar II Series RB885 for years, and am finally restoring it.
The serial number on the neck plate shows it as a 1983 and the model number on the neck says it is an RB885 B.
I have been searching every way possible and can not find this bass; only comes up with 1986 five string basses.
Can anyone confirm that RB885 was made in 1983 as a five string? Or just help me identify this bass?
Repainting currently, the pictures are with primer dried. Will put up more when possible.
Thanks!

you might have a neck plate from an older ibanez. first year for rb885 was 1985.

also your body looks like an 1986 or 1987 rb850, not rb885 because of the control layout. rb850 and rb885 bodies had the same neck pocket so you could have an rb885 neck on an rb850 body. the bridges were different and the rb850 used the accu-cast BII bridge. it used 2 screws in front of the saddles, 3 behind.

you can see the curve in the body for the accu-cast BII here^
did you see extra holes in the body there?

here’s one switched the opposite way from yours

Wow that was a fantastic response, thank you!
I never even thought that it could be a neck from one model and a body from another. It’s all fixed up and working; sounds fantastic. Needs rewired and had a terrible amount of solder all over the pots.
Any good resources for the wiring?
