1989 Squier Jazz Bass neck radius conundrum...

Howdy -

I purchased a made-in-Japan Squier jazz bass back way back in 1988ish. I was a doofus kid and shortly after purchasing, I "pulled the frets out with a pocketknife" just like my then-hero, Jaco. A few years later I swapped out the Squier neck a Warmoth and some Bartolini pickups and still play that bass today. I'm a woodworker and thought I'd make a new body to pair up with the old Squier neck just for fun. (FYI - I've made a couple of electric guitars from scratch - one with a Warmoth neck, the other with one I made myself, so I fee pretty confident in my skill level... : )

I took some measurements and it turns out that that the Japanese Squier neck has a 7.25" radius. It's painfully bumpy and buzzy but I intend to sand it to as close to perfection as possible. I have 7.25" and 9.5" radius sanding blocks. Question: Should I keep the original 7.25" radius or sand it to a more 'standard' 9.5" radius? Either would be very easy for me to do and I don't think I'd know the difference when playing. It seems that 9.5" nuts are much easier to find than 7.25" but I don't care much about that - I'll make my own from a blank if need be.

If any of y'all have thoughts, please share.

THANKS in advance -
