Hello fellow bass junkies!! I am looking at trading my 95 American standard lined fretless pbass for a fretted American fender. I have an offer for a 2010 jazz bass special. I searched the forums and found mixed reviews on the 2010 specials and almost nothing on the 95 fretless standard. I do not know as much as the hive mind, even though I don’t love the fretless, I don’t want to give it up for a meh Mia, if that’s even a thing. Would any of you do it?

Never read another online review of a musical instrument ever again. Ha - like I ever have. Seriously, that’s my advice. It’s all meaningless jibber-jabber.

Were you really bemoaning not being about to find a review of a bass you own? Isn’t that like googling your name?

As far as the trade... if you want. Might be sensible but a bird in the hand...

The 95 won’t have the graphite neck reinforcement I believe and the 2010 will which is a plus.

What’s so special about the special? Usually that’s a cheaper version no?

If condition is equal and you’re happy with the trade go with that.

The only 90’s American jazz I tried was a dog.

Fair points. I don't know alot about the American Fenders .There always seems to be pockets of greatness and pockets of ok. I think everyone's googled themselves at some point right?

Thanks for the input. I am leaning yes. We are supposed to meet up for a play off lol. The specials were cheaper or appear to be less desirable than the standards of the same period, based on what I've seen here. The neck may be even slimmer than a standard jazz, my main concern. I like standard pbass necks fine. The only "jazz" neck I've played was a squier . Not sure if they are the same.....

if you like your pbass enough you can get a fretted neck for it

This is a very good point. Even buying a different fender bass and swapping out the necks. I think the bigger question is as a fender guy are you a P or J guy? If you’re a P guy you may not be happy with the J.

Honestly I love a fretless P. I think a factory fretless is a rare and special thing. You don’t play it? Try getting a used MIM J and swap the necks around. You may love a fretless J. Or even a MIM P.

Great point. I am a p guy, I played for an extended session time last night. I think I'm gonna hold onto it a while and give the fretless thing a proper run through before I decide. Thanks all!
