22% off, $649, Fender Player Jazz Bass Plus Top Limited-Edition Blue Burst

Like you, I don’t need another bass… but I’ve been completely taken by the looks of this one for months! Gave in to this bad case of GAS after seeing the price drop, and ordered it Tuesday night!

It's a beauty. Can't wait to hear your thoughts about it once you have it.

It arrived on Saturday... played it Sunday... photographed it today! Put 3 of the pics in a NBD thread:

NBD - Jazz flame top blue burst

Tuners were covered in grime, and screws were missing/head stripped. Other than that, after a set-up, it plays very nicely! A few years back, I had James Brown's Christmas CD in my hands, and I put it back. "Oh, I'll pick it up some other time." Yeah, like 5 years later. Since then, no hesitation to get something that speaks to me... and this lovely bass did just that!

Wow. Great that bass does that for you. Kinda of stinks about the quality control. But at least it wasn't anything serious.

Not yet, trying to resist :roflmao:
Fortunately work has kept me busy enough to not have a lot of time to think about it. But that will change here in a week or so as we take off for Christmas and New Years.

Just talked to a friend who works at the local GC. They have one in stock. It's only a 12 mile drive one way for me. I'm going down stairs and play my #1 & #2 basses for awhile and try to convince myself not to drive 12 miles :woot:.

Whatever you decide will be the right choice for you! But you’re not just a little curious to see what the flame pattern looks like? ;)

Your post on 11/30, and the enticement email GC sent the same day were enough to encourage me to get this beauty! I appreciate you taking the time to post about the price drop!

Yeah, I'm very curious to see it and more. That's the problem. :roflmao:

I was good with the collection I have until I saw this thread. Great, now I want to buy one of these. Thanks for enabling my GAS problem. :)

You typically have to buy an expensive boutique bass to get a finish like that.
You're welcome:laugh:

I had an Ibanez SRQM400 that costs 449 new that had a gorgeous purple spaceburst on top of quilted maple. The problem though was the neck needed adjustment about every 3 months. And I'm not a fan of the active electronics circuit they used in that bass either.

So yeah, this Fender at 649 is a deal. One that I have so far been able to resist.

This bass is on sale again and looks beautiful. I’m sorely tempted.

But, There’s conflicting information online and in the GC sales catalog that came in the mail.
Can anyone with the actual bass tell me if the neck radius is 12” or 9.5”?

Also, how’s the weight relative to a regular Player Jazz?

thanks!!

The bass is a Player Jazz. So the radius is 9.5. And the weight is like any other Player Series bass.

I now own the green one too. Got the blue in Dec on sale, and the green one a week ago on sale, both for 649 each.

Surprisingly, to me anyway, the tonal difference between the green and blue one basically comes down to the strings. New rounds on the green, worn out rounds on the blue.

These two basses, except for color, are about as close as to being the exact same as I've ever seen between two basses from the same line up.

And so far from all the people I've seen buy them, only two were unhappy and didn't keep them. But I've seen dozens of people in groups on Facebook and a handful here that have been really happy with them, myself included. And several of us now own both the blue and green.
