I miss the WBO planning threads most years. If there already is one for 2025, please send me the link.
Be careful what you ask for because you might just get it. I march to a different drummer, who by TalkBass tradition, must be fired on sight.Must be "2groggy's choice" this year, so tell everyone what the theme will be, since you brought it up first...
Is it a bass or a bass? Seems like a nice theme - though I guess we could include or is it a bass boat? for those more into giant metalflake than fish-shaped musical instruments.
Thanks kindly sir. I think I'm mostly back from the barely-living and don't mind putting up the whole shebang.Of the above, I like reinterpreting a classic. Lots of room for (re)interpretation which should hopefully lead to lots of participation.
As for a get ready thread, might be good to put up something new, just to try and catch people not following this one. In the interest of not-overburdening-Beej (whose efforts in this regard we are supper-appreciative of ), just a brief post, catchy title, linking back to this thread.
I see what you mean. During a build off, I only follow the truly original or entertaining builds. But if an FSO (Fender Shaped Object) is well crafted, it still might get my vote.I'm not big here, I proposed a second life / reused theme.
With all due respect to the great designs of the past...
Frankly nothing could possibly be more boring and less creative than a bunch of bastardized old Fenders or what not..
Isn't creativity the whole point?
An incredibly crafted thoughtful reinterpretation could get my vote as well. But it sure seems like a lazy uninspired theme.I see what you mean. How about a "now for something completely different bass" theme?
All of my builds could fit this category. How about a "now for something completely different bass" theme?
I understand what you’re saying for sure. But you also need to consider that a build off with this sort of theme can also encourage new participants to get into building, which is a very good thing. Experienced builders will likely push the envelope anyway. An incredibly crafted thoughtful reinterpretation could get my vote as well. But it sure seems like a lazy uninspired theme.
If an incredibly crafted thoughtful reinterpretation is what an inspired builder wants to build, then they should absolutely be able to perform that within a loftier theme.
None of the themes are 'It can't look like a jazz bass'
It's not just that the theme is boring. It also potentially keeps creative contestants who want to do something original out. I find that more troublesome.
Yeah, I think a good theme is one that can be taken to new heights, one that allows for envelope pushing, and high levels of creativity, but is also not so restrictive as to discourage participation.I understand what you’re saying for sure.
