I am a complete and utter newbie although I have been in our original band/soundtrack company for many years. I'm mostly a drummer who composes music in my studio in San Francisco on my synthesizers. I always banged on the furniture at home as a kid, but picked up drumming when, as a keyboard player, our band just couldn't find the right drummer. I recently picked up a short scale Ibanez GSM bass with both a P and a J pickup. It was inexpensive, and after working with our bassist Gary Brown (Flora Purim/Airto) for years, I have to play this instrument! I'm going to have plenty of questions for all of you! I don't even have a callous on my fingers yet!

Drummers make very good bassists. The beat is the thing we all work towards. Digging ditches callous I never developed, just be glad when the fingers do not hurt anymore -- that type of callous is all we need.
