42mm nut width Jazz neck?

So, I have this cheapo chinese Jazz copy and I seriously love the neck. It has the P-bass 42mm nut width, standard string spacing but the neck profile is thinner than than the chonky P bass one but thicker than the standard Jazz neck (Squier VM, CV necks). The profile is just at the right sweetspot for me.

My question is, what other basses out there have neck like this? I would want to get a new "proper" bass from a "proper" brand sometime in the future and I want to know what options I have.

The JB has a totally different neck, so while they'll do a 1½" nut on their Ps, you can't have anything other than 1½" on the J.
I have a built to order G&L JB w/ a 1 5/8” neck. I bought it used, so don’t know the process to order it like that, but they do exist.

That's me told 😬 Any idea of the year?

Also out there will be JB-2s with 1⅝" necks - Jazz pickups in a P body, with the usual range of nut widths and fb radii eg this one. That model got discontinued a few years ago.

The MIM vintera. I was in the same situation. I had an 80s Peavey fury and couldn't find anything close until the vintera.

I've been trying to nail this down for myself in a bass that's also a comfortable weight for me - ideally 8.0-8.5 lbs. Something I'm playing right now is an LTD B-1004 Deluxe, which has a wider neck profile that's not terribly chunky. The combo of really good electronics and terrific build quality make it harder to justify shopping for US-made instruments... but it's also slightly heavier than I'd prefer.

One brand that I haven't tried yet is Maruszczyk. They make a "Jake" and an "Elwood" model (among others) that are both essentially Fender-shaped and the wider neck option on their 4-string is typically 40mm. These look like some of the best bang for our buck on the planet these days.

In terms of tracking down a Jazz with a wide neck, that could eventually require buying your own neck. I found one in the TB classifieds to replace the Warmoth Jazz neck I bought for a bass years ago. It's a better fit for me than the narrow J neck (my hands can't tolerate the narrow 1.5" nut width anymore), but not quite ideal. The LTD I mentioned above has been a bit of a stunner - not just a hard rockin' machine at all. It gives me a really nice fit and also plays effortlessly. I like a decent Jazz, but everything this LTD gives me right now is just "better".

I don’t know the whole story, but I requested the spec sheet from G&L and it shows that the original build was a 2012 model with a 1 1/2” neck. The post-theft rebuild (2023?) definitely has a 1 5/8” neck. Maybe sometime between 2012 and the re-build G&L swapped the neck at the request of the professional artist who owned/played it for a while?

The fact that it exists shows G&L is able, and sometimes (?) willing, to make a JB with other than a 1 1/2” neck. Would be worth a phone call (or better yet, reach out to @RocketMusic ) to see if they’d be willing to build another if it is within the OP’s budget.

@Nebadon2000 mentioned, you can get a P-bass neck to put on that Jazz copy. It's usually done the other way around - putting a Jazz neck on P-Bass - but swapping necks between Precision and Jazz Basseshas been around for decades and you should be able to bolt it (screw it actually) right on.

Current day Indonesia Squier classic vibe 70s P neck. The neck profile pretty close J neck, thinner than early day China Squier CV 70P.
