A guy who spends almost every day with a click track records EP live...

Like the title of the thread suggests, I record A LOT at home when I do demos and whatnot. And I always record one instrument after another - both when doing my own stuff as well as when recording with my prog metal band, Structural Disorder.

Well, today my other band Six Feet Deeper released the first single from our upcoming EP. And it's recorded LIVE in the studio. And I have to say, I really like the way it grooves! :D

Gotta agree, this is great.

I'm not a rocker, either. More old standards, Jazz and R&B, but I enjoy a good song played well and recorded well, regardless of the genre. You guys are on to something here.

Best of luck to you!

That's pretty impressive. I have to ask though...

Why in the world would you not put it to a video that shows it was live? I half read the post and just watched the video, thinking this is some awesome stuff. Then I re-read your post, saw that it was live, and thought, wha? A smokin live recording behind over dubbed video clips? IMO that would kill so much more if it were clear that it was live - without having to tell anyone. Telling that it's live (not here, but wherever else you wind up using it) I think takes away from the awesomeness of it. Almost like a comedian explaining his jokes.

Just my opinion of course, and I'm trying to be helpful - not hurtful.

Best of luck with the EP. Yer kicking some ass for certain there.

Let me see if I understood you correctly: The video clips are NOT overdubbed. They are the actual shots of us recording the song. We had three cameras in the room (2 GoPros and 1 Panasonic Lumix) and then I shot when Sara was singing and Patrik laid down his guitar solo. So this is not us "playing along" to the recording, it is actually us recording! :)

Also: Thank You for the ass kicking-comment! It means a lot! :D

This is excellent work.
I like it lots.

Got it. I misunderstood your first post then. Probably because I've been around a while and I'm still old school in some ways. The way you recorded is pretty much the only way I ever record with a band. Never called it "live" though. Called it laying down the rhythm tracks, then the rest. I understand what you meant though. My comments also came from the stuff around the 44-48 second mark which jumped out at me for some reason (not synced too well). Again, not knocking it, just being truthful, and again, I'm taking nothing away from the music. I think it's great. I'm just a stickler for making things as awesome as they can possibly be and acting as if it were my own band :).

Ah! I see! And to me, this is very much "recording live" as everything I record usually consists of everyone recording their part to a clicktrack and then getting merged together by the engineer/producer :)

I appreciate your feedback! It's really helpful and inspiring! Thanks! :)

It blows my mind that that's probably the more common way of doing things these days. I get it, but I don't like it. The new process, that is. FAIK, the song in my link is done like that only cuz it's all me (iz a bedroom recording). As I said already though, pretty much any band recording I ever did was otherwise "live."

If other old school peeps jump into this thread you'll keep on getting bumped to the top :).
