a hole in the wall...

This is not so much a specific gig report, but I though some folks might be interested in the Tokyo blues life...

In a previous gig report I post about Tokyo "gigs" and a bit about the "live houses". One great thing about some of these places is the sheer love of playing that most of the musicians have... it is definitely NOT about money.

Here is a pic from a Tuesday evening "gig" ... only half the band, since the space is limited.

For those of you familiar with the Tacoma Thunderchief bass... it provides a good idea of the "stage area".

Again the really interesting part of this close contact with customers is the stop and chat that happens between songs... very interesting with small rooms.

I remember years ago walking around one of the party neighborhoods of Tokyo (sorry, it's been a long time, can't remember which one) and there was a club that consisted of a Quonset hut - maybe 15 feet across and 40 feet deep - and the whole thing was TOTALLY PACKED with people, dancing like crazy. I mean, they were jammed up against the sides where it slopes in, jammed up against the curved roof, just jamming like mad. I didn't have the nerve to try to wedge myself into that.
