I’ve been really enjoying AC’s playing. I hadn’t been aware of him until he came up as the other bassist (after Larry Grenadier and Thomas Morgan) on Jakob Bro’s very heartfelt ECM tribute to Paul Motian, Once Around the Room. He also appears briefly in the recent film Music For Black Pigeons. His trio album from 2009, Dear Someone is especially good. It features a young Aaron Parks and some premium Paul Motian. He’s a little bit of a departure from the Scandinavian bassists that I know and love in that he’s a bit less overtly virtuosic and sounds like he’s playing a full set of guts. Pretty swinging too. Beautiful stuff.
