I got my first instrument with active electronics, a Fender Precision Special. I hear the obvious boost when I switch from passive to active. I love the tones in this thing. What are your favorite settings and do I need to do anything different with pedals or amp settings if im going to switch back and forth during a set?

The purpose of an active/passive switch is for your bass to be usable when the battery dies.
You may have noticed that your bass's EQ doen't work in the passive mode.
In the passive mode you would be using your amp EQ until you get to change the battery.

My Sire v7 5str has that. There is no tonal or volume difference with the EQs flat. I just leave it turned off and use the treble rolloff most of the time. Some times I roll on the bridge pup and the go active and boost the bass and low mid
