Adding Soft start module to a miter saw

Greetings!

Hope this message finds you all well.

I'm curious if any of you modified any of your tools with soft start modules?

I recently got an amazing deal on a Ridgid sliding miter saw . It's got a pretty good start kick to it and I'm considering a soft start.
A few external plug adapters can be had for about $50-60 us on Amazon, however I've seen a few videos of folks going a bit further by installing modules inside at
the switch in table saws, hand chop saws.

Anyone here have experience doing this? As always, any feedback is greatly appreciated :)

Have a great weekend!

I have no idea what you're talking about really.
By soft start you mean when the saw first starts up?
How would the device achieve such a thing?

I'm certainly interested to find out.
Likely a voltage control module wired between the trigger and motor that makes the motor accelerate more smoothly.
Controller ramps up the voltage from zero to full voltage when the trigger is pulled. Rather than 100% voltage when the trigger is pulled without a smoother controller.

I've seen this on other equipment that uses a capacitor or start winding and then a centripetal switch to go to full power. Definitely smoother

Is there a saw you know that has a soft start? you may look up the parts and diagram and see how to replicate that system
Good Luck

Soft Start is a common feature built into many power tools with motors over 1 1/2 HP. Most home-shop table saws and bigger size routers have it. I like it in the big 7518 series Porter Cable routers. It's not usually put on chop saws; I'm not sure why. Soft Start is also built in to any VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) as one of the programmable features.

I see that they do sell separate Soft Start modules that you can wire into any AC motor. Not expensive, pretty simple. I don't have any experience with them, but I assume one of them would work fine on a chop saw to reduce the startup kick.

They are called Soft Start Modules or Soft Start Relays. Here's one on Amazon for $22;

Thanks for that link Bruce!

I think Bezos has applied the “I’m gonna get you to buy the things I’ll profit from the most filter” to my profile ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

This one looks good as it can attach outside as it might not fit in the housing.

Yes, I’ve got a nice built in soft start on my Bosch router. Quite nice!
