I'm sorry that politcal ads are a part of the internet ad landscape especially for the next month. Our user-generated content policy does not apply to ads on the site. We do of course have the paid membership levels that remove some or all ads.
What does this mean, I really don't understand that?

TalkBass users agree to terms of service that include no posting about politics.

Advertisements on the site are probably served by Google ad services or something like that, and the content of those ads will vary for each person viewing based on what Google thinks will be most effective. For example, if you're doing a lot of searching about barbecue grills, you are probably going to see ads for grills and related stuff, because Google thinks that's one of your interests.

TalkBass doesn't get a choice in which of these ads run. It's not like political campaigns are coming to the site admins and asking permission to run ads for their candidates - they're served up either because you live in (in this case) Ohio or some other location with a competitive race, or have read up on/posted about the campaign somewhere else on the internet.

TalkBass can't specifically ban these ads, even though if a user were to post the same content it would violate the ToS. They don't get to pick which ads come through - that happens on a user specific level.

If you don't want ads and still want to support the site monetarily, you can pay for an ad free subscription and not have to deal with them any more.

We don’t allow the posting of political content, but it might appear in ads that we do not control
I understand; it sure must suck that you (TB admins. etc.) have no control over that.

Thank you. This is the best explanation I have ever gotten from anybody in years that I have asked, about this apparent double standard.

Multiple staff members have told you this over the years. If you have a problem with ads on TalkBass, you have 3 solutions. You know what they are.

Not at all.

As it’s been suggested to you before.
1. Gold supporting member
2. ad blocker

Or, if neither of those two options suit you and the ads bother you that much..

3. Leave

That’s not me being callous or encouraging you to leave. However, given your post history, you have an extreme problem with the ads on the site. I am just providing solutions.

I have to admit I didn't know there were ads on this site. I have the free adblock extension on my firefox and don't see any ads, even when I'm not logged in here.

I remember the good ol' days of the early 1990's when Al Gore invented the information super highway. There were no ads since no one figured out you could put ads on webpages to make money. Everything was free and open. Compuserve didn't have ads. Dial-up bbs systems didn't have ads. I miss those days.

@Jeff Scott stick around, we need you.
