Advice on removing super glue from headstock/tuner peg holes

What's my best bet here? I ordered some new tuners and the bushings I have currently are super glued in because they were just a tad loose. I definitely should have used tape instead but what's done is done.

I should mention I honestly don't mind any damage to the finish, I just don't want wood chipping away on me- primarily not inside that hole.

Thanks!

I think you'll find that the CA glue bonds very well to the wood inside the hole....and doesn't bond well at all to the plated metal bushing. A slight rap is probably all it will take to pop the bushing free from the glue. It's pretty unlikely that it will take any finish or wood with it. A sharp hammer rap on the front of the bushing may help break it loose. Then use a wood or metal rod from the back to gently tap it out.

Yeah, acetone is the correct solvent, but I wouldn't use that unless you have to. You can seriously mess up the finish if it gets away from you.

Ok awesome thank you all for the replies. I'll try a slight tap first.

Can't get a pic atm without taking all my tuners out, but what I did was put in all the bushings, tape them down, then flipped it over, and from the back of the headstock, ran a bit of super glue around the edge where it meets the wood.

If that's all you did, you shouldn't have any problem tapping them out of there. If you had gotten CA glue under the flange of the bushing on the front side, then it might pull up some finish. Applying it at the back, it mostly just sank into the wood inside the hole.

Thanks Bruce. Yeah shouldn’t be any glue under the bushing on the front since I had them taped into place while I applied it through the back. Not a bit deal if I lose some finish though. Appreciate the help.

a little heat from a soldering iron directly on the metal part can be a plan C if they don't just break loose and if the bass finish is harmed by superglue solvent.
