Hi everyone at Talkbass --
I've made a major switch from Ampeg Heritage 50th Anniversary SVT to a new Aguilar DB 751.
All I can say is wow, the Aguilar is amazing and I am really blessed & lucky. I can explain why I made the switch, detail some of the woes I experienced with the Ampeg SVT if anyone is interested, but rather keep this positive...
I've been getting familiar with the EQ voicing, lots of fun trial and error and found several sweet-spots so far.
One trick that I figured out (could be common sense to those more experienced) setting the gain and master. Early on I was using them evenly, but I found running the gain around 1:30-2pm area and just bringing up the master a better way to go for playing at the lower practice volume.
The reason for this post, I have a Tech 21 VT bass pedal and now that Im familiar with how the treble/mids/bass work with eachother I'm now experimenting with the preamp into the front of the amp. The DB751 amp by itself is amazing and not lac king anything per se, but the VT Bass pedal is providing a bit more ooohmf (on top of serious ooohmf that's already there). I can also use the character knob on the VT Bass to fine tune between more of a vintage/wooly tone to a more mid/upfront tone and leave my EQ set alone.
Wondering if anyone tried this and any further advice, does this work in band context, etc.
Thanks for reading, look forward to hearing back. I'll post pics when I get a chance.
