Aguilar GS112 "Club"

I feel I have to be in a club here..........So I swapped my Bag End stack for a pair of AG GS112s and the guy convinced me (as did discussion here) to get a Delta II 2512 Neo driver. I did and swapped it. So I bought a pv alphabass. It has plenty of mids so I went back to the original driver. I think it sounds more organic and natural. It sounds more like a pair of 15s.

Way back when, I started the thread "Desecrating the GS112". It wasn't because I didn't like the sound of the original speakers, I just had one that had a rattle under the dust cap that I couldn't easily remedy. I was curious about the then relatively new neo drivers and, aging, anything to decrease the weight was appreciated. I did contact Eminence and had a very helpful conversation...while they couldn't comment directly on the OEM driver, I was told that the Delta lite 2512II would be a great choice for the cabinet.
I have been more than happy with the results. I haven't yet changed out my other pair as I haven't used them in a long time...I certainly wouldn't hesitate to make the swap down the road should I start using my second pair of GS112s. I found that I didn't lose anything down low or on top, but I did wind up with a more articulate midrange.

Still in love with my GS112s.

I have a pair of GS 112's and love them. They are my all time favorite cabs for electric bass and sound great with most of the heads I have tried them with. The Aguilar AG 700 sounds massive with those cabs.

I am somewhat surprised that Aguilar discontinued them in favor of the rear ported cabs. Rear ported cabs sound fine when there is a wall behind them to reflect the sound coming out of the back. Put them on an outside stage with no wall behind them and you get very little sound out of them.

I'm not knocking the rear ported cabs as I also own a pair of SL 112's but the rear ported cabs have limitations that the front ported GS 112 does not have. I also own a GS 212 and use it in my practice room since I no longer want to carry a cab that heavy to gigs.

I wonder if today's amps do a better job of EQ than older designs did when the GS112 was out. Personally I would be fine if I could EQ the mids back in and still keep the nice lows of the native driver. Haven't really tried it with my new d800+ yet.

I have used a pair of them for many years. I ran a DB750 and now a Tonehammer 500. They handle it well. I have been using a single cab as of late and have had no issues with volume. Some call them scooped. I don't think so. I think they are very even without the mid bump of the DB112. I like those cabs too but I prefer the somewhat lighter GS. I never have PA support, play with a loud guitar and an electronic drum kit through a muddy PA. Somehow that little GS cuts through it all. A remarkable speaker and I agree that it is unfortunate it was discontinued.

I'm glad to hear all the reports. It always seems as soon as a new flavor comes around, everybody flocks to it. Some equipment (like the Eden D410XLT or Bag End D15), becomes a classic even though it has fallen out of favor. I am thinking that these could qualify for that status. So many positives- Quality, size, power, tuning-voicing, front porting, weight (portability/modular) and Mod-able with the Deltalite II 2512. The only negative that I can think of for me is my Reeves has to straddle them a little.

Talkbass is most definitely the home base for the Flavor of the Month club. :)
