I've been playing through a PF-500 for a few years now, but in some live situations (non-DI'd), I've felt like I was pushing the envelope volume-wise in the mix. I just picked up a PF-800 since I'm otherwise pleased with my current one, and planned to sell the 500. In a nutshell, I'm hoping to get that elusive "clean headroom" with the additional 300 watts. I A/B'd the 500 and 800 in my house, and was disappointed, almost ready to return the 800 as it didn't sound one bit more powerful or much different than what I already had.
At last night's outdoor gig, I used the PF-800 on stage. What I could do there (and not really at home) was to take the Gain and Volume controls to about noon. WOW, that's when this thing really kicks in. It seems that both amps have kind of the same loudness response up to some level, but then the PF-800 just keeps going bit further. I think this is going to work out.
