Hi Guys,

I’m in the market for a new amp setup and have been looking at something more portable, I currently run an Ashdown ABM500 Evo III through a 4x12 Mag cabinet - not the worst but it’s rather cumbersome to transport.

I’ve been drawn to Ampeg by ‘that’ sound they produce and also having been able to play through various SVT heads in the past which sound unbelievable.

I’ve had my eye on the Portaflex series, based on the portability and that wicked vintage look & have heard good things regarding the way they sound.

But I’m interested to know if anyone still has any reliability issues with the 800, I’ve read that most of the issues were apparently isolated to the PF-500.
I’d be keen to know people experiences who have purchased a PF head in the last year or so.

The Pf500 is fine, the issues have been worked out.

That being said I don't see an issue with the 210he unless you're expecting 412 loud out of it, that'd be a great way to have to replace drivers.

I had that setup for a while. Just be aware that the 210 HE will in no way come anywhere close to what you have now. It sounds good for a 2x10, but it's nowhere near a 4x12. Also I don't think 'portability' is a strong point of these amps/cabs....they are quite heavy and large. I did like the PF-800 but eventually replaced it with a Quilter Bass Block which is half the size and weight, and replaced the 2x10 with an AudioKinesis 112 cab which is also half the size and weight and easily outperforms the 210he.

If portability is your main concern, I'd honestly look elsewhere.

I got my PF800 in 2014 and it's still kicking as good as it ever has. The PF500 had some problems its first year out of the gate, but by and large it's been pretty solid since then, and the PF800 has always been solid. Might find a bum one now and then, but they're pretty few and far between.

I've been running my PF 500 for a couple of years now without so much as a hiccup. When I first got it , I was running it through an 8 10 e cab. For the last six months , I've been running it through a 2 12 av cab. Before all of that I was running a full SVT Classic rig. I really don't think I have lost anything sound wise from the smaller rigs. Even in the louder bands I have played in , the 2 12 and PF 500 are plenty loud. I still have the full Classic rig and will probably never sell it but it only has gotten use in the basement for quite a while now.
