Hey guys! Easy question if anyone has the new Ampeg Rocket combos and has used the direct connection to connect to a pa… is the level of this connection tied to the main volume of the amp like on the Fender Rumble v3? I want to get one of these to replace a head/cab I’m using but the one thing that annoyed me about the Rumble 500 I had was this. If I turned the volume up and down it affected the line out level, it wasn’t separate. I have no reason to think it would be the same on the Ampeg except the simple fact that the Rumble and Rockets have a similar look and build specs. Any help is greatly appreciated, I am really excited to try one of these.

23. BALANCED DI OUT: Connect this post-EQ, Post-SGT, mic level, balanced XLR output to the balanced input of an external mixer or recorder. In this configuration, you do not need to mic the speaker cabinet in order to add it to the main mix or to record (RB-110, RB-112, RB-115, RB-210).
Sounds to me like the volume control does not affect the DI out but the EQ and SGT (distortion) does. I imagine it's because there's no GAIN knob, which affects most POST-EQ amps.

IMO it's setup in a good way. You get all the EQ and effects going to the board but if you turn up the volume, you won't mess up the soundman.
That’s what I am hoping for. The rumble was setup so that if you touched the volume, it directly affected the DI. It was ok if you didn’t need to touch it, but we all know rooms are never the same and additional setup time is annoying! lol

I may be wrong about the volume knob. Sorry if I am.

Used my RB-112 last night to record. It is post-EQ and the volume control governs what goes into my interface, the same as the Rumble's. That being said, I plug a jack into the headphones out, run the volume to noon, and get perfect input for recording. As I mentioned in the Combo Club, this combo is by far the best I've ever used to record with as well as jam and play out in smaller gigs. If you like the sound of an Ampeg, you'll find it in your heart to forgive its one flaw. As far as why they do it, I'm guessing it's cost-effective, but I'll differ from someone who actually knows. Good luck with your RB. Stop by the CC with a pic of the combo and I'll add you to our membership list.

I think I’m already a member from my rumble lol! I don’t think it will be a problem. If it becomes annoying, I can always use my sansamp to send to the PA. I can’t wait to hear it, I definitely love what I’ve heard online.

I recorded our Demo CD with a combination of Sansamp out, pre-EQ on my GK amp, and a mic on the speaker. The engineer then mixed them together to get the sound. It was cool. I felt like Geddy Frikin Lee man! LOL

Ya know, I think you’re right and that’s without looking. It covers all amps so don’t worry. Hey, I’m such an Ampeg nut I have an SCR-DI in the chain as well!

Let your ears decide what you can do with the tone you’re about to get before worrying about pre or post. I sold my Rumble 100 a week after receiving my Rocket Bass. To me, there was no comparison.

Main volume.

If you play with your stage volume high, get an attenuator. If you play with low stage volume, sound guy needs to up your gain.

It's strongest, cleanest signal is at about half volume.

Word.

The 210 is just expandable.

The 12 sounds better. They need to make an extension out on the 12 on v2

Sorry Jeezy. My brain isn’t quite where it used to be since the mild heart attack and stents. Getting better, though.
That sucks dude. My grandpa had the same thing about 12 years ago. They ended up having to do the stents again a couple years later, and now he keeps having mini strokes. It's terrible.

Glass you're okay Jimmy

+1000

Jeezy’s right. As I said, for recording, bypass your speaker with a dummy jack and run your volume to noon. Send to signal to your interface and be prepared to be impressed. The tone is clean and musical and sounds very much like an Ampeg amp!
