Hey guys so I have an Ampeg SCR-DI PreAmp and want to set up a simple pedal board that includes the preAmp. Was wondering if anyone else has the Ampeg PreAmp or really any preamp/Di box and wondering how you chain your effects. Why do you take that approach?

the other pedals that Im getting is an Analog delay(Aqua Puss), Boss Chorus, PolyTune 3 tuner, MXR Phaser and sometime down the road I'll eventually get some type of Octave Pedal and possibly an envelope filter (depending how gigs go) Anyway any thoughts on this would be great. Thanks again.

I use a sansamp as opposed to the Ampeg (mostly because it's what I have but size is another factor on my nano+ board) but my effect chain goes like this:
bass > compressor > fuzz > multistomp > sansamp.

I put the compressor first because it helps shape the sound for everything else (usually I turn it off when working with fuzz because that has a pretty high amount of compression by nature as I understand). The multistomp (zoom ms60b) is at the end because I mostly use it for amp sim. and time based effects (delays, reverbs, etc) and I heard they worked best at the end. The sansamp has my DI out so it goes at the end and helps work to balance tone with its EQ options.

Most of the reason I built the board this way is just what I heard works when reading posts/looking at pictures. It'd a good place to start if nothing else. I think you'll find there are some common preferences, but that everyone does things a little bit different for their desired sound. The great thing about individual pedals is they're modular - you can rearrange them as many times you like or add and take stuff out until you get exactly the sound you want. Don't be afraid to experiment!

Here's an article I referenced when trying to figure out my chain. It's aimed at guitarists, but the rules should apply for bassists as well. THE BEST GUITAR TUTORIALS FREE!! Effect Pedal Order With Justinguitar.com

Enjoy your new effects!

I use a Sansamp and run effects in front of it. I put it at the end of my chain so that I can use it as a DI to FOH as well.. I usually go dist (mine is big muff)-->comp(mine is supersymetry)->Volume-->tremolo->Microsynth->Bass Octave->Reverb->delay/loop-->sansamp I sort of prefer to have my comp at the beginning but after my distortion because I like how it smoothes out the muff a bit I usually try and put any modulation effects after volume before time based processes and most people would put reverb last (at least last before the sansamp), but I like being able to loop the verb through my delay pedal and still play dry over it or vis a vers a

Thanks for the replies guys. I was either gonna get the ampeg or the sansamp preamp and ultimately went with the amped because I have to admit I'm a bit biased towards ampeg. Although honesty good sound is good sound. Sansamp is also a phenomenal preamp but it was a few bucks more so hey why not.

Im definitely gonna experiment with the effects and placement. I don't see myself going to crazy with effects but now of days you need a variety of sounds. Look forward to experimenting
