I've been incorporating synths into my rig for about a year now (soft synths with a midi controller). The way I've been doing this is with an A/B box to switch between the laptop running the synths and my bass. Of course my bass sounds great, but I'm finding that my synth patches sound pretty bad through an amp and cabs designed exclusively for bass guitar. Some of my patches have a lot going on and there are multiple layers of instruments going on at a time.

So I'm starting to consider a new rig. It seems a foregone conclusion that I will have to go with a PA power amp rather than a bass head. The bigger question is cabinet choice. I've never done too much research into the Fearful thing. I'm also not sure how good a solution regular PA speakers would be for this type of setup.

With this rig, a lot of the gigs have no big FOH support, and the biggest venue I have to move air through on a regular basis is a club with extremely high ceiling and fits 500 people or so.

The question to the community: What would you do? Fearful? PA speakers? Something different?

It's been a few years since this post, i hope you have found a good solution for your rig.
An A/B switch was my first thought at trying to connect synth and bass into the same bass amp head. I created a thread about this to get some feedback and after a while I got myself a little analog mixer to do the job. Connected synth and amp to mixer, balanced gains and volume levels, eq'd to taste. And just when i was ready to test drive the rig...pandemic! at rehearsal :banghead:
Let me/us know how's your setup now, please.
