Any ideas on how to fix this damage?

I recently bought a used Ibanez SR505 online and it just delivered today. Noticed a bit of body damage that wasn't listed or shown via pictures. I'm not too bothered by it, but considering it is exposed wood, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix it, or at the very least cover it up/protect it from the elements.

I hate to say this, but that's pretty bad for undisclosed damage (unless the bass was described generally as having wear and that specific spot wasn't mentioned, maybe). Have you thought about talking to the seller in terms of some sort of recourse or compensation? You could get an estimate for a repair from a local tech and use that to negotiate.

If you can find a match for that paint color, I would fix this with an epoxy/sawdust slurry to fill the void, then sand smooth and paint to match - it'll be hard to blend the color perfectly but at least it's not a very visible spot.

Also, I'd probably be tempted to reach out to the seller even if you're okay with the damage, just to get the story for how it happened. Did he accidentally leave it next to an angry woodpecker? Does he wear a belt buckle with giant spikes on it? Does he have a pet rabbit with huge pointy teeth?

Some gluboost fill and finish, and a bit of brown tint will fill the holes. (Not an invisible fix) It will at least make it smooth and less noticeable. Then a lot of sanding and polishing.

I would get some Gaines Burgers, and...

Wait, what??? They don't make Gaines Burgers anymore??? Hmmmph.

Oh well, get some fancy-dancy "Purina Moist and Meaty" and cram that stuff down in those missing chunks.

flush it out gently with DI water (like from an pipette) then when completely dry, apply a single wash coat of shellac. it will seal it up enough until you figure out your next move.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it was. All the metal was fairly tarnished, I feel like it was probably stuffed in an attic or garage or something and forgotten about for awhile. Fortunately I already had some silver polish for my trombone on hand, so I could buff most of the tarnish off.

Wood damage is a little out of my realm of knowledge, however.
