Any metronomes that make a woody "clunk" sound instead of a beep?

My metronome is getting on my nerves lately. I nicer sound would really be appreciated, but I don't know where to start. Any ideas?
This is why I like drum machines for a click. I hate that beep, too. I either switch the click to cowbell or I program a simple beat.

Do you have a tablet or a smart phone already?
Lots of apps to choose from.
Personally I’m done with basic metronomes and use a tablet DAW to practice to virtual drum machine. Practicing scales/modes/patterns to a drum beat is less tedious IMO.

korg beatlab mini is pretty nice and has different sounds

beatbuddy is also awesome, but it's a pedal drum machine which might be convenient or not

Love my Korg KDM-3.

If you like a seriously classical, no-nonsense device with a nice 1980s vibe, I would recommend my trusty old Wittner MT-50. Just a nice feeling dial and a pleasant and really loud claves sound:

One of these was given to me back in the late 80s (still works perfectly fine) and I got my daughter one this past summer. They both sound exactly the same and have a very pleasing “click”.

I've had a Wittner "Mini Taktell" since about 1990. It's also plastic. It still works great, and sounds like a big old wooden metronome. Wittners are great!

If you are looking for a computer-based metronome, I would highly recommend Open Metronome (Windows based). It's programmable with quite an extensive selection of sounds and versatility. For example, you can program it to play the kick on beats 1 & 2, the snare on 3 and the high hat on 4. You can read more about it and how versatile it is on the download page here . . .
