Anybody digging old&cheap bass processors?

I have been watching pedal demos by boutique pedal brands and by far I found out that there are too many experimental pedals those brands made. Mostly by synth inspired or trying to find new ways to use envelope, lfo etc.

During my research on youtube I saw a funny yet psycho video, a guy trying the old alesis guitar processor.


So I came up with an idea but I’m not sure if its legit. People are experimenting tones of their guitars and pay tons of money for many pedals. Maybe trying those old and cheap processors give us some cool tones which were sounding very crap back then.

Is there anybody who thinks like me? Or maybe already tried couple of them?

I’m thinking to give shot with Alesis BassFX and Digitech BP200.

I get a lot of mileage from my collection of oddities. Most multieffects are decent boxes if you are willing to dig into the gui and grok the possibilities

>Digitech BP8 Valve has a great comp/limiter, tube preamp distortion, 4 band EQ, Wah, Whammy, Delays, reverbs and in general some really nice sounds if you dig in. Digitech gets a lot of hate but they do make a decent box

>Zoom B2, B2.1u, B3, MS60B, G1X, MS100BT are my main toys and I have a B2 dedicated to synth sounds. The B2 or B2.1u are the anchor for my live rigs and then I will add other pedals as needed, sure they are old but I have spent so long tweaking the tones that it is hard to give them up.

>AdrenaLinnIII, not exactly cheap but it is an odd beast that is awesome on guitar and has some great sounds for bass as well.

Korg AX series is pretty decent, I used to gig about ten years ago with the small AX5B, you can probably get the bigger AX3000B for peanuts nowadays. Decent SVT amp model, excellent modulation effects, but shoddy and unusable overdrives. Made in Japan, so even though the housing is made out of plastic (smaller units at least), it's very well made and it can take a beating and then some.
Also look into Behringer V-amp/V-amp pro, it's a great cheap toy, but again - pretty bad overdrive/distortion effects.

Never liked any Digitech processors I've heard, be it for bass or guitar.

I never had a bass processor, always went with amps analog pedals. But I watched videos of these cheap processors and decided to buy some of them for sick synth sounds. I will consider Zoom b2 and Korg AX5B. I’ve heard that they are cheap and good pieces.

I don't know where you are but several years ago I bought a B2 for $25 at a pawn shop and an MS60B before the update for $50.00 from the classifieds here at TB. FWIW yhe new Zoom B1xon and G1Xon are super cheap and lots of fun for experimenting just not as gig worthy in their plastic state, but I gigged the 506 and 607 for years with no problems.

I live in Turkey. There are not much options. Mostly old Zoom and Digitech models.
