Anybody using their hobbies to pay for other hobbies? I'll start. I'm really into watches. From timepieces, to my gear, my hobbies almost have to pay for themselves now. But I'm quite content with all of it.

sometimes . . . it's not a big money hobby but I have been collecting leather holsters for many years and sometimes sell one to fund a purchase of some sort, a new pedal, or small gear. I've never actually used the holsters, just have an appreciation for the leather work, designs, and tooling. My oldest one is approx 100 yrs old, which has been in my family for a couple of generations and started my collecting buzz, and I have several from the 50's & 60's that are now fairly valued collectors items. I know, it's a strange hobby, but not as strange or malodorous as collecting cats.

I have bought and sold many sports cars over the years. Some of them I recondition, then drive and enjoy them for a few years. Generally, I am able sell them for 50 to 100% more then I have invested. During that time I have a fun toy to play with.

I've flipped a bunch of cars for a profit..... but since automotive stuff is my career I guess it doesn't count for this thread. :(

My only real hobby (besides Bass) is collecting and selling scrap metal.... and I've made a ton of money from it. I've got no shame in picking scrap up off the side of the road..... it's amazing what people throw out that has value in scrap.

I sometimes think about scrapping again. It takes such a huge amount of steel to make it worth the trip for me that I gave away my scrap pile last year.

Scrap is up right now..... especially A, B, & C.... which is Aluminum, Brass & Copper. Even steel to a degree.... drums & rotors are $290 a gross ton and tin (loose lite iron) is $209 a GT.

Last scrap run I did (1-27-18) was batteries, aluminum wheels & #1 insulated copper wire. I came home with $1200.

Do scrap yards issue 1099s? I buy/fix/resell motorcycles and sometimes part them out. I end up scrapping a lot of parts when I part them out.
