Anyone plays non-metal progressive rock?

I can't think of a music genre that is more out-of-fashion, and yet it is my favourite genre of all times: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Rush, Marillion... does anyone play covers of their music nowadays?

My covers project plays some Rush, Yes, and Genesis, we're kind of known for it. If you're going to do this, you have to be super-careful about song-selection. Stray away from the well-known hits or do too much and you'll clear the dance floor and maybe even the venue in an instant.

Fixin' to start up another Rush trib here before too long. It's not something that I expect will play out often, just more of something I wanna do again for fun once in a awhile.

I've been a member of both Tull and Genesis tribute projects within the last 5 or 10 years. In fact, there two great local Tull and Rush tribute bands where I live. And a couple Genesis projects make yearly stops at a local theater and they easily sell out an 1100 seat room for one or two nights. It's a niche market, but the genre is far from dead.

That's awesome! Did you manage to find a flute player? I love playing Jethro Tull songs esp. on bass, but the need of a flute player has always meant not being able to play them with a band.

I did play in a band with a singer who played flute, but the keyboard player can cover the lines.

That also happened in my band. Our singer played flute and acoustic guitar. Keys would cover flutes here and there (the first few bars of Thick As A Brick come to mind). We had one or two shows when the singer was holding the wrong instrument when a certain part would come up and our keyboardist would always save the day. :)

I don't play covers, and I don't play traditional/old school progressive rock, no...
I do however use a lot of elements from progressive rock, that is non traditional song structures, and a lot of odd meters/time signatures, often changing meters and rhythms within the same composition.

So I'd say I do play what one could probably categorize as progressive music, and, among others, I am definitely heavily inspired by progressive rock and math rock.
