I wanted to hear those who have had basses or tried basses that had both the Aguilar OBP-3 and the Glockenlang 3 band preamps and their opinions. What did you like best and what be your preferred choice and why?

I have basses with both. They both are great but the Glockenklang is my favorite preamp of all. The Aguilar has a more pronounced affect on the tone, it's own flavor. Some say its transparent but I find a little mid push. And as everyone says, a little turn of the knob goes a long way. The Glock is the cleanest, most transparent pre I've tried. It does not color the tone at all. Just gives boost to the treble, mid or bass. If you like a very "crispy" tone, the Glock's treble frequency is the highest out there, +/- 18b @ 18KHz. I prefer the 2 band that has the passive tone control.

Glock by a mile. The Aguilar is more aggressive but like has already been said, a little turn of a knob goes a long way. It's easy to get into overdone territory. If looking at euro preamps I'd actually prefer the Delano based on where the highs are set. Or just get a Pope and be done.

The above quote is completely correct. Having used both preamps, I can confirm this. I personally prefer the Aguilar because of its sheer power and overall tone. Plus, I am not big into the whole "ultra clean, transparent" thing. I don't mind some color. That's what makes things different. BUT, sometimes clean tone has its place in certain situations. Either pre-amp is a complete winner.

What the OP can also do, if he is really torn between the two is to install the Glock, along with an active/passive switch (or run the pre-amp flat since no difference between flat and passive) and also get an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal. That way he can switch between both preamps in less than two seconds!
