Are toxic threads now removed completely?

Yesterday I was participating in a thread that had completely gone off the rails (to be fair, it was never on the rails).
As of 05:00 today there's no trace of said thread.
Is that a thing now?
I'm not questioning mod decisions, I'm questioning my sanity...

Sometimes. Depends on the thread. A rule violation in a post will get the post deleted. If a thread is off the rails or serves no constructive purpose, it may get closed. It's possible to delete the whole thread but that would probably mean the whole thing was one big violation. There's no standard policy to regularly delete threads.

As I suspected, thanks for clearing this up.

+1

I’ll just add that if the thread started about politics or some other against the rules topic or devolves into a poo slinging match, it may sometimes be deleted.

Another moderator viewpoint.
As volunteer moderators and fellow musicians, we aren't here to delete threads and issue warnings. Repeated bad behavior will at times force our hand.
What can happen in a thread is there will be one post that violates the ToS and is correctly reported. In that case, we can remove the offending post and leave the thread. Then we have times when other members quote and respond to the offending post, turn themselves into armchair moderators, make unnecessary comments like 'IBTL' or 'I can't believe this thread is still here ', or 'I'm going to grab some popcorn', and general nonsense like that. When that happens, the thread usually ends up getting locked and maybe deleted altogether.
If you'd like to help make TalkBass a better place, report offending posts and resist any urge you have to add your flavor of humor or commentary in the thread. The moderator team will see your post report and handle it.
