Oh hey!! I grabbed a P/J set of these from Guitarmadness with plans on throwing them into my Squier Jaguar bass. It presently has the “Duncan Designed” AlNiCo P and J bridge pickups, which are probably made by Artec as well!

Anyone have any experience with these?? They definitely give a chunky look, and something different to the table.- might be fun- but anyone out there used these??

I've had several types of Artec pickups over the years, and they've all been quite good. I think at $42 bucks you probably are going to be pleased w the results.

Yes- I think they also make pickups for Wilkinson and other “branded” stuff as well- they seem to be great value for the coin.
I’ve got an Epi EB-3 I’m thinking about grabbing the “Hot Sidewinder” from Artec as well-

I got a set of alnico strat pickups through guitar madness a couple years ago. They're good quality, and I like how they sound. I don't know if everything guitar madness sells is made by artec, and I have no experience buying bass pickups through them.
Yes- I’m pretty pleased with the service and inventory and prices at GuitarMadness- they get lots of like over on TDPRI forums (the Telecaster pages- I’m active over there as well )

thanks for the replies!! :bassist:

I haven't tried that set, but I've used a lot of their guitar pickups and hardware over the years and have always been happy with the cost/performance ratio.

I got a Squier PJ on Monday as the foundation for a fretless project... your post has me heading over to ebay now for pickups.;)

I put a set of the Artec fat pole precision bass pickups in a parts bass I have, just because I wanted to try them. I replaced a set of Fender Original P bass pickups I had in it. The bass sounded very good with the originals but I have to say I really like the fat poles. Comparison wise I would say that the fat poles are a little more focused and articulate with a bit more output IMHO. I did find that pickup height adjustment is something that needs to be payed attention to. YMMV

THANKS!!! You are the first person who seems to have actually thrown them into a bass and played them!!

I’m inspired to get them into my Jaguar longscale PJ now!

I was originally thinking about trying the Delano PMVC FEM2 Series P Bass pickups but not knowing anything about fat pole pickups I thought I would give the Artecs a try. Turns out I like what the big poles do, so I might just order a set of the Delano's. Nothing wrong with the Artec's but the Delano's are in a different league I suspect. YMMV

Yeah, but for 2 hundo v. $28.

I put the ceramic version in this 2021 CIC Squier Jazz. I don't hear a dramatic difference between them and the factory pickups, but I think they look cool, they were $20 shipped, and it satisfied my curiosity, so I'm happy. jfyi, the pickguard is a Musiclily from Amazon. It needed a little work with a file in the neck area, and that's it.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the output for these pickups? The neck shows 5.7K ohms. Is that right? Seems really low. I was looking at some similar big pole pickups by Dragonfire, same thing. Really low ohms. Is there something unique about these kinds of pickups that causes this low reading?

I ask because I was considering trying a big pole neck pickup to put in my J bass, to pair with a quarter pounder-style bridge pickup. I was just wondering if the big pole would be too weak. Can anyone shed some light on this? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

DCR figures roughly follow wire wind count. 4mm pole pieces in a bobbin allow for more wire than 9mm pole pieces in the same size bobbin.

While there's a wee bit more to DCR, thinner gauge gives a higher wind count, what you're seeing is mostly down to physical constraints.
