Bad experiences with D strings of tapered sets.

I've had weird issues with tapered sets on my bass that I only now was able to correlate.
Namely, D strings of tapered sets seem to die very quickly when compared to the rest of the set.
I came to the conclusion recently, when playing my bass again after not having touched it for a week.
The D strings was starting to sound dead, and I found that very poor seeing how these are only two month old Pedulla stainless steels (100-40), for me the most expensive set I ever installed :(
I now remember that a similar thing had happend years ago with a set of Dean Markley SR2000. Back then, it was the first set of that brand I used and I simply blamed Dean Markley. I never cared about contacting them or the store about it, as I found it wasn't worth it seeing how that set was very cheap at Thomann.

However I am very disappointed in that Pedulla string dying, especially considering how I have a year old set of La Bella Hard Rocking Steels that sound brighter overal, keeping in mind that both those strings are actually made by La Bella.

Did anyone have something similar happen before?
In other words, does the tapered version of a string last less long then it's full wound counterpart?
For the record, I know how to install strings and make sure that their are no twist in them and so on. Also, this never happend to me with any normal wound set.

I then thought that maybe the bridge was causing this, but the bridge got changed along the way so the sets were not on the same thing. Also it's an Ibanez with a 2+2 headstock so their is no string tree or something else touching that string.
