Ball-end silk over the saddle?

I recently put new Rotosound 77 jazz flats on my fretless Peavey Foundation. As I set the intonation, I found the ball-end silk coming up on the saddle on the E and A strings.

I'm not hearing a difference, but it just seems wrong. Could I simply cut back the silk so only metal contacts the saddle?

Yes. However it looks like the vibrating part of the string (between the saddle and nut) is not silk.

Rotosound is using colored ball ends nowadays too?

No and rotors are always red. These aren't 77 unless a vast change occured very recently.

Edit : well what do you know, they indeed some have these teatures.

Silk can be removed but it doesn't have a real use either way.
