My band just released our second EP today. If anyone is looking for some new tunes to listen to, I would greatly appreciate if you gave it a spin, and of course feedback is always welcome too. Its a heartland/country rock type of thing, for those who like to know what you’re getting into first haha.

I like it! Your singer is flirting with the Jason Ringenberg vocal styling...

Tell us about your writing/recording setup and process...
Thanks, Im not sure who that is, I’ll have to check them out! I’m the singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist in this band. About the writing & recording process: generally I write the song’s lyrics and chord changes before I bring them to the band, with some idea for feel of the tune. Once the rest of the band gets mixed in, though, the feel will often change for the better, adding more dynamics and melody as well as improving the drive and groove. The percussion/rhythm hits are probably the biggest thing that gets added and changes the songs the most, and of course the lead guitar parts really fill in the empty spaces. For recording, it was all done at my house using my iMac, a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 gen3, and Logic pro X. The real challenge was that we only had 2 inputs to use at any time, so we had to strategically use those as best we could. The drums were tracked with 2 “overhead” condensers, one over the center of the kit to pickup the snare, toms, and cymbals, and the other in front of the bass drum. I quietly played my rhythm parts and sang along in the room to keep the drums on cue and give reference for later guitar tracking. Surprisingly it came sounds pretty decent! The guitars were done individually, mic’d the amps with an SM58. The bass was recorded direct in to the interface. The vocals were also done with an SM58. I think I may have used my mic tube preamp for some of the vocals? I honestly can’t remember as I re-did them so many times haha. We mixed it ourselves, and used a subscription service called LANDR to master the tracks.
